Scary that is the only area where I reckon diesel has an advantage in the D2 at least...the ability to carry diesel on the rear bar (although the extra weight there is not ideal) and safely on the roof. I did run a 25l low profile boat tote tank on the roof on the far North and it gave me good range to explore Lakefield National Park. Very easy to decant from there to main tank by leaving it on the roof and using a large diameter jiggler. Saw the transfer very quickly and safely. But having 25l of petrol on the roof is not my preference.

Having said that I could fit a long range petrol tank and have an extra 50l or so so i suppose there are always ways and means.

    Cheers

Ps. I also love how forgiving the D2 petrol motor is of crap in the fuel versus modern diesels (I understood the td5 was pretty forgiving too).

No panic here...unless it comes out as a V8. Then it really will be retro.

I worked out that if i took the patrol to the cape and back from where we live, it would cost $300 more than our old amarok, worth every cent.
Maybe i should just put a vk65vd in a defender similar to Blackrangies rangieWon’t be retro...
Good write up here on the petrol vs diesel and "cape" ability of petrol v8

I would guess the new defender will be released at first in mild hybrid as option or ingenium and maybe v8 for svx super v8 for lux

Get your Petrol V8’s now fellas because in 5 years they will no longer be for sale and wont be allowed to enter most cities in the world. Neither will diesels.

Climate change shock is about to really bite
Agreed. Earths crying atm, Major action is needed on all fronts. JLR made a good call going MLA for next defender its future proofed. By the time the switch to only electric, chargers will be everywhere and batteries will last twice as long and hopefully we can figure out a way to charge in the bush.
Then there's hydrogen power which seems more green to me, i wonder if JLR have accounted for that?

Was reading recently of a y62 owner who just did the CSR, all he jad was a long range tank from memory, no issues. So do you really need to have a diesel? CSR is pretty remote, i don't think fuel type matters, unless its an EVWon’t be retro...

Will be interesting to see what engine choice they come up with.
Small diesel, larger diesel, v8 petrol, auto or manual would be a great spread.
I can't see them doing manual tbh, but you never know.

Agreed - manuals are old tech. Can’t see that happening to be honest no matter how much I think that is a good idea.

Its actually interesting what specs the svx disco has, I imagine the defender will build on this list but run smaller wheels out of the factory with similar height tyres.

Hydro bodyroll/extra travel system seems very similar to y62 patrol.

the real work went into the suspension. Land Rover’s Hydraulic Active Roll Control makes its Discovery debut on the SVX, offering increased wheel articulation. The company also claims that H-ARC improves body control both on and off road, increasing traction in the rough stuff and minimizing body roll on the highway.

The lifted air suspension improves approach, departure, and breakover angles, making use of long-travel dampers and new knuckles.

The Discovery SVX also gets a revised version of Land Rover’s Terrain Response 2, which adjusts throttle, brake, and torque distribution for optimal traction in a variety of circumstances. The eight-speed automatic transmission and two-speed transfer case get a unique calibration for this application, and the SVX features a veritable cornucopia of Land Rover’s driver-assistance technologies, including hill-descent control, electronic traction control, dynamic stability control, variable-ratio power steering, and LR’s very British-sounding All-Terrain Progress Control. And for those who aren’t fans of the regular Disco’s rotary-knob gear selector, the SVX gets a pistol-grip unit.

Problem is there is zero news on it since its release?? Anyone heard anything from dealers, was reportly confirmed by JLR AU for oz.

Heres one landrover site selling them Won’t be retro...

The h-arc uses shocks as well? Nissans hbmc doesn't use shocks, just hydraulic rams. I would guess the landy system works better, they always handled better than anything else.
