All I see when I look at a D5 is a Freelander, an ugly one .

Yes when I was speaking to the dealer about the D5 and the Defender they said that they don't mention the base model on purpose. Not many people know there is a very cheap affordable base version on coils.

They’re clearly wrong headed.

The base model should be the most capable as it’s the most likely to go bush. It’s ridiculous that the most capable is the most expensive which is least likely to leave the suburbs!

If they leave the transfer case out of the new Defender base model it will be hilarious.

If the Jimny is more robust and capable than the new Defender it will be even more hilarious.

It’s most hilarious if anyone thinks they can judge the new Defenders capability, design and robustness based on the marketing spin we’ve had from JLR so far. Currently it’s like they’re fishing with corn at a trout farm!

Getting soft in our old age , The dimensions (except for overhead space) are slightly larger than a Series 3 SWB , No problem touring Australia with two kids back in the '80's in one . Don't really need to bring the entire contents of a house along but that is the trend.

Haha, its soo small though in the back, literally a fridge and slide would take up half of all avail space behind front seats even, you would need a roof rack or racks and a huge roof pod even just for bare touring nessesities imo.
Having said that the front 2 seats are spacious and comfortable.

I don't think its marketed or practical for long distance touring, more weekend fun.

The Jimny literally has enough space for 2 duffle bags squashed in with 2 adults 2 kids.

Series 3 would have 2x or 3x the space inside running 4 seats compared to jimny.

Heres some pics of one with 6 and 7 seats and still more space for luggage than a jimny using 4 seats

Agree.....but I’ve moved onto something only a little bigger live out off.

There are plenty overlanding around the world on motorbikes therefore a jimmy for two people would be ample

A jimmy would be good for us to leave in Tassie.....fly in pick up jimmy and head off to the start of a hike...a week later drive to the next...than go home. And comes back six months later and do it all again.
