That is a good looking bar But it does look a bit "Tacked On" and the original bumper needs to be "Gone" and maybe the radiators relocated behind the bar itself so that they are better protected not only from a forward impact but from upward impact from sticks/rocks as well.

The ARB winch/bull bars I have fitted to my D2a and my Navara completely replace the original bars and they have a massive amount of space behind the wings on them that would accommodate the smaller oil/transmission radiators, Maybe aftermarket radiators for the D2 fitted there would be of benefit like they are on the D5's

This pic clearly shows that even with a bullbar, the bottom part of the original plastic bumper is still required to cover the low hanging radiator/cooler fruit. And the grey bash plate intersection looks awkward too. It wouldn’t last long in the bush for any extended work, regardless of air spring lift IMO.

Any serious 4x4 would have a clear approach angle between the upswept corner of the bullbar and the tyre.

Yes, unfortunately my tube bar doesn't give much protection, might switch back to hoopless ARB style down the track, coolers could be on angle behind, but need vent mods to bullbar, even so might be to small on RRC, but maybe big enough for 4.6L
Heres one by LRA, blacked out might look a bit better though.

This vent mod in almost same RRC shape plus diagonal coolers on D2 ARB bar would work.

We know ECB chose to put bar over bumper, others wont imo, cant wait to see one without it, its the easy way to do a bar, but is a good option for now and a fair few members here have them, protection from intrusion and impact.

The approach angle is what counts, its offroad angles are best in class from factory, so its not like they are hanging low like a 200 series bumper, the ecb bar actually reduces approach angle , so it would hit first from where I'm sitting.

Wonder what the chances are for a decent factory bull bar for the new Defer.

Wow, big call, Is the Gwagon also the laughing stock of all 4x4?

In my opinion its a non issue on the D5, and will be a non issue on the new defender(if vents are real) just like its a non issue on the new Gwagon.

I think higher than in the past as they are trying to claw back market share from aftermarket modifiers I've read, hence the SVO and classic devisions.

There’s a waiting list of at least 12 months for the new $250k 2019 G63 in Australia. It’s the luxury market though and the front coolers won’t be an issue. The new 350d might be coming here too and yes it has the dangling coolers too, but at least it also has a solid live rear axle.

..let’s hope new Defender is so good it has such a waiting list...at a lower price point and the front coolers are well up out of the way.

yep, clearly useless in the bush !!

Moot point really , I'll never buy one (or any other JLR product) & the those that do will spend most of their life in the city.

Agree to disagree i guess Gwagons are known as some of the best 4x4s out and most 4x4 owners in general do spend most of their life in the city the world over so no news there.
