Few updates and links from the latest articles, spyshots and spyvids.

Thought it would be easier to keep all the quotes and info from JLR (and assumptions based on these) regarding the new defender in one place so we can keep updating easily. If you want a quote or info added or even think something should be removed, pm me or say so.

Will keep updating this when time permits.

    ENGINES

Jaguar Land Rover insists the Defender will need a "balanced engine portfolio" in order to succeed in all global markets.

JLR has also said it will launch a three-cylinder Ingenium engine that will be used in a future plug-in hybrid version of the Range Rover Evoque compact SUV. JLR is also expected to announce a diesel straight-six Ingenium engine to replace a Ford-sourced V-6 unit.

JLR currently buys V-6 and V-8 gasoline engines from Ford’s Bridgend plant but has said it will end the agreement in 2020. Ford has no other customers for the engines and has said it will cut jobs at the factory as it concentrates on its own four-cylinder engines at the plant. JLR will stop purchasing V-6 diesel engines this year from Ford’s engine plant in Dagenham, London.

"Though Australians were denied a taste of Jaguar Land Rover’s new Ingenium straight-six in the Range Rover Sport HST, the engine will be making its way to our shores on board the 2020 Range Rover.

The new 3.0-litre turbocharged straight-six petrol unit, which will be replacing the venerable 3.0-litre supercharged V6 in Australia's Range Rover line-up, comes paired with a mild hybrid setup that utilises a 48-volt electrical system. The latter supplies power to an electric supercharger which supplements the engine’s twin-scroll turbocharger as well as an electric motor that provides torque-assist for the engine.

The Australian market will be receiving the full-blown 294kW/550Nm iteration of the Ingenium straight-six engine, 14kW/90Nm more than its supercharged V6 predecessor. The new engine is able to charge from 0-100km/h in 6.3sec whist delivering an NEDC combined claimed fuel consumption figure of 9.3L/100km. That’s a second quicker and nearly 2L/100km more frugal than what the supercharged V6 managed."

New 2020 Land Rover Defender: latest details and spy shots | Auto Express

JLR are on record as saying all of their models will be electrified by 2020, and also that MLA is the platform that will be phased in from around this time, so it is logical to assume that the new defender will be on the MLA platform which will have mild hybrid hybrid and fully electric options.

Multiple exhausts, twin one side exit and dual left and right seperate exits.

Multiple brake and wheel combos show different powered engines.

Dual fuel flaps (in snow and moab testing) and hybrid pilot stickers in moab vid confirm a 110 hybrid of some kind.

Lucky8 says straight 6 ingenium will be in defender.

3cyl and 4 cyl diesels are likely with hybrid

V8 is also a possibility either at luanch or in later svx,svr versions to compete with Gwagon performance versions.

    BODY STYLES

JLR have released the general outline of the new defender as part of a investor presentation.

Basic body shape can be accertained by combining tusk and invictus and removing 3x fake body lines.

Bonnet bulge confirmed with invictus photos

"The Defender has up to ten different body styles from soft top to Utility Wagon to Double Cab Pick Up allowing you to ride around Delray Beach in the Defender that’s best for you and your driving needs."

2020 Land Rover Defender: What We Know | Land Rover Palm Beach

Land Rover's chief marketing officer Felix Bräutigam told Auto Express: "One of the exciting things for us is that we are not launching a car, we are launching a family of cars."

design boss Gerry McGovern has hinted that a performance SVR version of the forthcoming 4x4 could also be on the cards. Such a car would be developed by Jaguar Land Rover’s newly formed Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) division, and would allow the brand to tap into demand in Russia and China for powerful and luxurious rugged off-roaders, currently dominated by the Mercedes-AMG G 63.

It's also likely that a hardcore Defender SVX will join the range at some stage and we could even see a luxurious SVA version in line with the Range Rover SVAutobiography.

Rear dual solid recovery point, front middle recovery point and bash plate.

Optional winch and tube bullbar seen on italian spyshoys

Great approach, ramp and departure angles.

    Multiple Sliders and sidesteps seen.

Possible checker plate on left/right side of bonnet.

    Wiper mounted windscreen washers.

Front/rear/side cameras. Rear looks to be washable in moab shots.

Alloy expedition style roofrack on roofrails seen in spyshots.

    INTERIOR

JLR are on record saying that the leaked images are older pre-production photos however by saying this it is logical to assume that the general layout and seating will be very similar.

2 dealers from 2 different forum members have confirmed leaked images of dash including middle seat are general layout.

Latest tech, info screen, digital binacle, multifunction steering wheel

    Heads up display

    Middle seat.

Moab spy video shows very similar steering wheel to leaked interior.

Floor looks like rubber and rugged in lea ked images, however there will no doubt be levels of trim to suit all.

Spain spyshots confirm shifter and middle dash knobs match leaked pic layout.

    SUSPENSION

As can be seen on the pilots will have long travel air bag suspension with a coil version option.. one of the original Range Rover Sport mules was spotted with coils.

    Rear mechanical sway bar.

    TYRES AND WHEELS

Multiple wheel and tyre sizes seen on mules, moab testers running on 255 / 60 R20 (32 inch tyre) 34inch looks possible with little to no mods

    CAPABILITY

Departure (approx50deg) approach (approx 45deg) angles can be ascertained from the new Defender photos. (Alloy and grit)

Terrain response, rear diff lock, possible front.

As part of an investor presentation they showed that the defender will be durable, practical, functional and have offroad expertise.

JLR executive Dr Ralf Speth told Carbuyer that the design and engineering of the new model is all but finalised, and promised that the new model will be “even more capable” than the previous Defender when the terrain gets challenging.

Clearly confident as to the new Defender's abilities, he went on to reveal: “I have driven test mules already… and also tried the car against competitors, in on and off-road environments. It’s sensational.”

Moab testers told spyvideo recorder that they are impressed with the defender there.

Some of the Trails reportedly driven in Moab:

Lucky 8, say they have seen engine bay and coolers are up in engine bay higher.

2019 Chicago Auto Show Recap | The Largest Auto Show in North America

Speaking from the 2018 Paris Motor Show, Jaguar Land Rover's chief marketing officer Felix Bräutigam said: "The new Defender will not simply be a copy-cat, something retro. It will be something that moves the game on for Land Rover."

JLR executive Dr Ralf Speth informed us that early development mules were undergoing testing by bosses back in 2017.

Rather excitingly, the JLR boss assured us that the new car will be “even more capable” than the outgoing Defender when the terrain gets challenging.

Teasing further, he said: “I have driven test mules already… and also tried the car against competitors, in on and off-road environments. It’s sensational.” He would not put a timeframe on when the new Land Rover Defender would debut but he did say: “It is coming. We are working an authentic successor of the predecessor.”

New 2020 Land Rover Defender: latest details and spy shots | Auto Express

Gerry McGovern said: “The Defender is all about durability – that indestructible, durable vehicle which is what a family of Defenders would be.”

    Revolutionary design

"Our design strategy, or our brand architecture: Land Rover is still a master brand; Range Rover is our family of luxury vehicles that talk to refinement and sophistication; Discovery talks to versatility. And I think when Defender comes, this strategy will all make sense. It will be the absolute polarization of Range Rover, to give you a clue."

BR - if you dont work for JLR or are not being paid as a brand influencer ( which wouldnt surprise me at all if you are ) then i suggest you get on to them and ask for a job .
That is a serious amount of effort on your behalf for something not even released, they could use that post as the media launch brochure.

I’ll pay you’re accusation of entrapment.
It only failed to draw you in as for some reason you are incredibly sensitive to accusation of positive bias? That draws be back to this thread far more than the terrible JLR marketing campaign.

Now some facts, you have done a great job of compiling 3TB of internet trawled words and data
    But answer me this....

How many seats will it have?
    What will be the range?

None of your (things we know) are specifications. You get terribly excited about recovery points which says a lot to me- IMO a 4wd needs a winch and a towbar. Therefore it has a front and rear recovery point- anything else is just guff painted yellow to make people look like they are “off-road cool”

I would say taking orders is trying to make sales
But they are selling an esoteric dream at the moment!

PS please understand all my ramblings are in no way a personal attack - I am absolutely intrigued in your one-eyed-ness and have loved you ability to get updates that I would never have bothered to look for. To be honest, without this thread and your passion for the LR2020 I would have had very little construct of the soon to be released vehicle - to be honest that IS the risk of a grassroots / leaked media marketing campaign. The only ones engaged will be those who are a little passionate. Average Joe in the market for a new family wagon will have no idea about the LR202 till it’s actually released which is wasted opportunity.

Anyways - still a few months to go
Maybe we might actually get a specification before then

Thanks mate, it has been posted around 10 times in this thread, started small, got bigger each time as new stuff is found, made it because people kept saying we knew nothing and as a reference point.

This is not directed at you only, more straw that broke camels back Won’t be retro... Respectfully If people want to genuinely thank others for effort they put in, say thank you, without the, "you must be paid" rubbish that diminishes it after.

Again i find it appaling as a LR fan that you can't be excited about a new LR product, put info together to help others on a LR forum on a new thread about the new defender without being paid Won’t be retro.... I honestly think its embarrassing as a LR fan that people say that. Joke or no joke with the paid JLR thing, as mentioned before if anyone says it moving forward they will be reported, even if its said in a nice way. Its becoming a personal attack, and its not respectful at all to the unpaid effort that people put in for others potential gain. Cheers for the consideration.

Yeah the Moab one is sweet, shows the pano roof option too. Shot from front shows the water better Won’t be retro...

    Close yes

It will either have 5,6 or 7 seats?
Range can be guessed only - since it’s a LR I’ll say less than 600km real world?

See what I mean - it’s all speculation
    Pretty much all of it

I commend you for your effort - it is way above being a land rover fan
But you cannot dent the level of speculation in your what we know synopsis?
Respectfully JLRvhave released zero specifications, people desperate for this not to be a flop (whichbit May still be) have filled in the blanks.... if it truly is going Out the door come September JLR should sharpen up. Most people plan vehicle buying decision on a longer time frame than 3 months....

I guess one thing we can say - for the first time in a long time (maybe ever) JLR WONT be using early adopters as beta testers!!

I pity the buyer who pins an open cheque (do we still have those?) to their Order/Contract Form & sincerely believes they are getting an identical vehicle to that shown here.

    Just sayin'.
