Yes Toyota does call them snorkles on the 70 series, but they aren’t sealed,LR have always called them RAI’s.

But you never know with this new vehicle,it may be a genuine snorkle
Yep, Its all in the wading depth in specs and if it states a depth with/without snorkel.

Considering D5 is 900mm without snorkel officially and higher unofficially, 1m with snorkel on new defender would be a reasonable assumption, unless 900mm is floating height on defender too.

LR have never had a "snorkel" on their standard public retail models - have always been "remote air intakes" so not really suitable for wading.

looking at the hi-res version of this pic is interesting.

There's still sooo much camo on the vehicle. Like that ridge that runs along the hip line all the way from the front to the back - the OCD in me wants to get a pin and pop all the air bubbles under the wrap! Lots of flimsy little cover up panels on the front. I wonder if the bulgy section in the front grill area will stay...

    Cheers,

    Sean

Also good to see that the raised air intake is on the passenger side for us in RHD countries - less vision obstruction for driver.
Looking at that RAI, it goes into the body work rather low down . I suspect that the RAI , once installed, by-passes and blocks off the labyrinth air intake which would normally enter from above the headlights as on D5, L494 , L405. (but that would mean the labyrinth intake would like be just on passenger side only too)

D5 isn't my cup of tea either.
