Far fetched,yes.

European vehicles have a huge overseas as well as local market.

Mercedes have said they will stop making ICE in 30 yrs time.
They will still have to develop ICE for at least the next 10yrs.

Hybrids will continue to have ICE,so development on them will continue.

Just because some European countries are moving to ban ICE,many from 2040,it doesn’t mean the rest of the world will.Thats many years away,and anything can happen in 20 yrs.

In fact current diesel vehicle bans,such as in some areas of Germany are not diesel bans as such.Only vehicles that do not comply to certain emission regulations are banned from these areas,such as older vehicles.Interesting to note heritage vehicles are excluded from the bans.

And the other interesting info is out of 186 new service stations planned or under construction,around the country,not one will have charging facilities for EVs

Servos are unlikely to install charging stations until it is made compulsory, as is happening in the UK, I read.

I get the whole you gotta pay to play but perhaps I’ll just wait till the LR2020 proves itself and the community has worked out how to self service it and Bell Auto has worked out how to read and clear codes (a carton says IID tool won’t work)

Just back of the envelope calculations Service Costs on my 2.4tdci 130 I’ve now owned nearly 3 years:
IID tool
Racer filter with pump $400
Change from $1200 on tyres
Oils and Filters $500
Bought a $35 clutch master cylinder when clutch pedal got flaky on a 2000km tow trip, clutch came good - new master still in toolbox....

That’s it?

Anyone of you D4 owners have a whole life cost (excluding fuel/ modifications/ interest) for say first 3 years of ownership of a reliable D4 (ie excluding major mechanical failure units - I know LR made a few good ones)
This is acknowledging if I bought new I’d keep it dealer serviced for the 3 minute warranty LR offer.

71k no onroads (+4k onroads)

Add 910 low range

Add 2140 for air susp.

74k no onroads (+4k onroads)

.....

So 75k driveaway no low range on coils.

78k driveway low range and air susp.

80k driveaway with 5 year 200,000km warranty.

As for running costs

Looks like newer landrovers (Discovery) sit under or similar too the competition.

He's dead right, i think if the old Defender had evolved at the same pace as the rest of the models then i believe we would still be here now with this version.
I could easily imagine this having been developed alongside the D3/4.

The Disco's 26,000 kms between services is a lot more than the others, if you believe synthetic oil and filters can last that long. I'm sceptical.

If I had a servo I wouldn't be putting one in until there's a hell of a lot more EVs on the road.
Most charging stations I've seen have been at motels that cater to business travellers.
