So 18inch wheels with 32,33 or 34 inch tyres are no good?

For that matter you can add all sizes above 35 aswell.

How so specifically are they no good?

Wouldn't the profile of a 34 inch tyre on 18s be the similar to the current defenders profile? But with ability for bigger brakes.

    I see no negatives.

You seem to be missing the point. It's sidewall height that concerns us, not equivalent overall diameter.
    Can you even buy 255/80x18?

Ian yep currently no such thing. Can't see there being an 80 profile for an 18 inch rim.

The best is probably 275/70/18 And it's sidewall is 7.6 inches which is about the same (very slightly better) than the 245/75/16's on my D2. But the 275 is a 33 inch trye (mine are 30.5) to achieve a decent sidewall size. That's a big tyre. Not at all sure that will fit without fouling on the new Defender.

    Cheers

32s are stock on new defender, 33s fit d5, why would 33s or 34s be an issue on new defender?

That's good to know. If 33's fit with no issues on the D5 then they should fit on the Defender. That tyre size front fit on D3 without significant mods. Do you know for sure the D5 works with them with no mods?

    Cheers

That's not quite accurate, at least for Australia.

D5 owners have fitted 32" tyres using 20" wheels without any issues and in one case a 32.5" tyre using an 18" wheel without issue. Bigger than that is likely to rub on a D5. The new Defender may have better clearance in the wheel wells allowing 33" to fit given that it's not a lot more than the D5 but I think claiming 33" or 34" will fit is premature. Particularly in Australia where we don't tend to make the more intrusive mods seen overseas.

Refer posts 54 and 66 here: Tyres for Disco 5

Photo of the 18" wheel with 285/65/R18 tyres from that thread. Similar sidewall height to the D2 mentioned by ozscott above.
I would happily take that size anywhere the vehicle could go.

Scotty I would be happy with the sidewall on that D5.

    Cheers

Ps. It's a pitty the aftermarket for D5 is dead. The Defender should have plenty of aftermarket bits though.
