The MHEV system is only meant to assist with transient acceleration and can only deliver between 14-20Kw(depending on the motor) PEAK for a very brief 2-3 seconds and 2-3Kw sustained and with the 48V capacity being minimal that is not the primary aim of the system. It is there to remove turbo lag through the electric S/C and do the low speed electric drive.

The P400 ICE engine pretty much is what the specs say. The electric motor can only directly contribute 25HP for very brief intervals it's more effective for it to drive the ~7Kw electric supercharger to remove turbo lag and boot the ICE to its max power/torque almost instantly to gain performance.

The fuels economy savings are made when the engine is stopped while traveling under 3 Km/h coasting to a stop.

Have a read of this - continue onto the subsequent pages ("next articles") for more detailed explanations of the different MHEV architectures and how they work:
Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicle (MHEV) – introduction – x-engineer.org
Yep, was referring too engine choice for new def, not mhev alone giving the increase.

As already stated, its not new, been out in the RRS HST as above.

D7x is new, but just stronger components.

International testing & Warranty alleviated my nerves.

Once it is actually released and in the wild (UK will have a new forum - I guess it will have by be called Defender3 or maybe NewDefender as Tdci kinda stoke the Defender2 title)

In any case once it’s actually being used / tinkered with / taken to the dealer with JLR niggles and people start using it then the last 12 months of threads will be pointless...

This is all good fun banter back and forth - speculation and assumption.

To be honest it’s about time delivery started ! Will be nice to read some actual user reports

You would be surprised how much forums come up in search results when searching the net. Prob how we all found aulro in the first place.

Def2 is prob easiest to type but thats also a forum name The New Defender.

Will it become ND? Like RRS or RR

Only prob for forum is at this stage only way people searching for info find it is if we use new defender.

If we use the correct threads people find what they are after.

    Are we misinterpreting something here?

What is the information source to back up this +100hp claim?

Are we guna call a D1 a rangeovery too?

As far as pointing out the weights for BR to keep on subject(this is forum rules and the way it works dont do it for me), sorry how does adding the defender weight that you made up keep things on subject? Its 2.3t full of fuel and driver. Infact most will be 2.3t-2.4t driving around modt of the time, heavily modded ones or ones on trips with fams could be up to 3t+.

I would prefer horse dung and NO impermiable streets, horse dung is biodegradable, i used to collect it and sell it on the side of the road as a kid.
Its much better than a planet that is uninhabitable due to us ruining the delicate balance on so many levels.

LR have pretty much said there will be no EV defender

Mhev, phev, ice are the current options on the table.

Can we keep it to a discussion of the new defender if talking about fuels and there are other threads both on engine choice and alternative energy.

Harmless, well yes, until someone wants to actually find on subject info and has to sift through 100 pages of EV vs ICE vs hybrid vs alternative energys etc that has been done to death on other threads.

    p400 comparison

For those that like their 4wd with a bit of 'poke' , the Defender doesn't do too badly in the list below, sorted by 0-100 times. The list is not exhaustive - I have included some screamers at the top and some more common sloths at the bottom, and probably left out a whole bunch. A lot of these I would not consider as proper 4wd's , but thought it would be an interesting comparo. The only faster one that is cheaper than the Defender P400 is the Jeep GC SRT.... Times were taken from carsales specs or manufacturer pages, or, where these were not available, from performancedrive.com.au . Of course the obvious question is, why would you buy a rolls royce Cullinan when the Bently is faster and 200k cheaper, I mean really .

Wow thanks great research, yep this is why i can't go past the P400, its just too good on paper. And reviews of it in HST RRS overseas look good too.

Jeep is a screamer for sure but lots more juice, and not really an off-roader.

It would be interesting to reduce that list down to just vehicles that we think could make it to Cape York, or spend a weekend in the Victorian high country doing some tough tracks.

Wonder where the mythical Defender SVR with the BMW 4.4 engine will sit in the 0-60 chart?? .. mid 4's? .. up around the X5 M50i .. maybe a little slower due to the additional weight ..
