    I agree 100%.

A $68k drive away price would take market share from Prado sales IMHO.

Yes I reckon 10-15K cheaper at the low end. I saw in a vid this week that mentioned the commercial version would come in at 35KGBP (90 I would imagine) which puts it at 10K GBP cheaper than the "nice" 90.

That would work well here in terms of pricing as long as they don't neuter it by getting rid of all the off road goodies.
    Cheers,

As pointed out in the aussie pricing thread, its a far superior offering overall at base, hence the premium over the prado.
90 will drop down from there, commercial will drop down again.
That will cater for most peoples budgets, but not all.
If you sell at a slightly higher price point, you don't have to make as many or sell as many, you also stand out from a value proposition standpoint, LR dont intend to sell the most cars I can assure you.

It is interesting you quote 15%, as the AUD has dropped in value by 15% against the Euro over the last 2 years. Had the New Defender been launched in 2017, it probably would have been 15% cheaper in AUD as LRA could have hedged the currency at a much better rate than today.

If we see a stronger AUD in a few years time, removal of the hype value premium, along with dealer discounting to move stock with free accessory packs thrown in - you could see some good priced New Defenders in the future.

Then in 3-4 years time when ex-leased Defenders start to hit the secondhand market, you will be able to pick up a good used version for 30-50% below current new price.

Prado is a much smaller vehicle by a fair margin,so of course it’s going to be cheaper,as is Pajero.

LC 76 is also a completely different vehicle,it’s in a class of its own,now the old Defender has been dropped.

FWIW,the New Defender sort of sits between Prado and LC200,at similar price to 200.

It hasn’t got the internal room of the 200.

Although 200 prices rise around 3% from 1st November.

Sure LR has to look for new customers, but I don’t know where from.

Maybe D4 customers, but it’s smaller in the load space area and doesn’t have a large diesel, same for 200.
Possibly people that wander into an LR dealer looking at the D5,or just want the new Defender.

As we know Aus is only 2 to 3 % of LR total world market,so there will be other competition in bigger markets. The competition here is sort of unique, the Toyota offerings are not huge competition in many other markets. And I don’t think new Defender will worry the competition at all, here.

But I don’t think many people that have the old Defender will be interested in the new one, unless they want a new vehicle upmarket from what they had.

The Deefer in my sig will be going shortly due to a number of reasons, the only replacement around that is similar,is the 76,so that’s what it’s going to be.

Agreed people also need to realize the LCT here depicts higher final prices compared to other markets, its a joke imo.

LCT shouldn’t exist now there is no domestic manufacturer to protect.
