    The New Defender

I expect the new Defender base model to drive at least as good as a D4 2.7 on the road, so will be chalk and cheese compared to a Prado which despite the quieter 2.8 diesel is still truck like to drive compared to a D4.

The EAS, TR, TFT dash and maybe 3rd front seat will set the Defender apart from a Prado. It will appeal to the family/recreational user.

But it’s still a Land Rover, and JLR need to draw in buyers that are new to the brand.
$65-70k drive away entry price will do that.

100%! it should have been gone the minute the last manufacturer announced they were shutting down. They like the money too much to give it up and what will it do to the 2nd hand market for those that coughed up on the tax? It will cost them even more when they try to sell their LCT car in a non LCT market. Anyway...wrong thread for this.

It should be removed gradually over a few years.

    But it never will be.

Now we could move onto Land Tax,but we won’t.....

    And it is.

Seems they love that colour, for whatever reason.

Still boring colours really, compared with LR colours, but they are a commercial vehicle.

That mine spec vanilla white has been around since Adam was a boy.

    But at $68500,drivevaway,not bad value,in today’s market,if that’s what you want.

Unless Mr Stylin is as wide as a Tongan
That is NOT a big rear load space

I really think price won’t scare wagon buyers from the 110
It will just be too small for a family/touring wagon

I would never have bought a 110 wagon due to the silly rear door access
    And load space dimensions.
Seems of all the things they should have improved is the rear load space
But they look to have “retroed” the Worst part of the old one !!!!

Cool pic, and not a bad colour.
Shows how big they actually are, with 'him' in the driver's seat. (Smiling proudly) The New Defender

Interestingly looking at the defender loadspace, i found out the D5 rear seats are on tilt and slide, new defender will be the same to access third row area etc.

What this means is you can actually run the rear sears further forward, reducing rear legroom if you say have small children, and increasing rear luggage room. You can also recline.

In this pic they are right forward, but could run them in the middle, new defender has more legroom from what i understand giving more scope for adjustability with family scenarios, the average family has a small number of people in AU so most wont have any problems. Add a roof pod to explorer rack if you really need to for all the light gear.

LOL - at the moment they charge a premium and don’t give you any luxuries, so I’d argue that it’s an improvement ... you could pay over $100k for a D4 and still not get keyless entry, which my three times cheaper Mazda had.
