Actually more $$ than D5! ...JLR thinks everyone wants to drive a Range Rover...or an ‘aspirational’ Range Rover, which after all is what the D5 and various ‘’Sport’ models are.

    ...they’re wrong.

Have no problems with his comments if true, just don't know what he is replying too? Scrolled up and didnt make any sense to me saying too expensive, what specifically is too expensive?, so i asked if in wrong thread, there is a pricing thread if its a new post.

It was a response to a previous post in this thread. JLR is in danger of making the Defender with desirable options more expensive than an equivalent Discovery. That would be a mistake, I think.

When I purchased my D1 new it was cheaper than a Freelander and cheaper than a Defender 110.

I'm not really clued up on the D5 specs, but does the entry level D5 come as the 4WD version or is it the AWD version without low range? If it is the AWD version, how much does the upgrade to 4WD cost?

Options are optional The New Defender same as people doing up there old Defenders and spending either 20k or 200k on factory+aftermarket gear, base defender driveaway is just under au79k with very impressive standard equip.
LR are very openly trying to grab share away from the aftermarket, just like Jeep did with mopar.
    Works for me.
Anything that is reasonably priced, does the job and i would get anyway will be on the list..my optional accesorys extras list came to around 20k including fitting, lower than i imagined.

LR probably think there is more 'demand' for the 2020 Defender, completely new,a bit of a niche market ATM,so many will pay a premium.

Lets hope the demand continues and grows.

Where the D5 is a bit same, same, that is similar to the rest of the line up,a luxury SUV.

IMHO,Discovery may go the same way as the old Defender, depending on sales in the next few years.

The new Defender won't help it either,as it will take some, maybe many of its sales.
