Damn - I would never have thought of that - I tried to use a valve spring compressor!![]()
I sat and read all 30-odd pages of this restoration journey the other day:
I must stand in awe at your optimism, your attention to detail, and your never-say-day attitude.
Really awesome work.
Hats off to a master.
Damn - I would never have thought of that - I tried to use a valve spring compressor!![]()
G'day All,
I have fitted the door seal rubbers that I bought from clark rubber, they are reasonable, but as the originals are no longer available I suppose they will have to do.
After lunch I removed both rear bumperettes, masked them up and resprayed them gloss white (they had DBG overspray on them)
they will get a second coat of white later this afternoon, tomorrow check for white overspray and paint it gloss black.
The rear chassis X member also had DBG overspray on it, and needed to be redone in gloss black, it took a long time to mask it up, 5 minutes or less to paint it
I bought the roll of paper from my mate Craig way back in 2002, when I started on the bloodbox, anyway better get back outside and check the jobs, cheers Dennis
ps the simplest pieces of crap can solve the hardest problems sometimes, I also thought about using valve spring compressor as well, but it never got past the thought stage, mainly because of the cost of the tool!!,
thanks for the compliment jakeslouw, but I'm just an amatuer like most of us in here LOL,,.![]()
When I purchased my valve spring compressor I counted up the number of times I thought I would need it, multiplied that by 2 and figured, for all the use it was going to get, a cheap one would do - so I had no worries about being prepared to sacrifice it on shocky pins and the like... (If I know a tool is going to get a lot of use I buy good quality - and I would never have bought the full BSF/Whitworth rings and open end spanners if I had known I would only use 2 on a 2a)
That paint job is looking the goods mate.
G'day All,
Managed to get it all back together today, without knocking any paint off
hopefully, it will get passed for registration next weekend, that will give me a few days to drive it around the local streets to iron out any faults.
anyway cheers Dennis![]()
Congratulations Dennis!
This has been a privilege to watch you restore this piece of history. But as it has now come to the end of its restoration, I feel as if my favourite telly program has been taken off air and I am now left with this empty feeling. Perhaps we could all pass around the hat and buy you another basket case just to watch you work your magic on it .Again, well done on a first class effort and if my 2A gets to be as half as good as yours, I will be pleased and I would credit you with the inspiration.
A job bloody well done mate!
Are the door rubbers unquie to the australian model?
I got a full set for them 2b last year...
Looks magic Dennis -I have followed this all the way.Congratulations on an excellent restoration.
Cheers
,Mary

Dennis,
is that a flash of green I see on the exhaust pipe!!??
My question is...
Are you replacing/redoing these items?
(The bottle opener and the stars?)
Even if you don't do the bottle opener I think the stars is a good one, (sort of the yanks get back for lots of red rats maybe?... I can see it now....2 blokes half tanked at night lifting the bonnet on the MP vehicle
"shhh, hey bub wait 'til them kangaroo painting buggers find this, he he!"
then stencilling the two stars under the bonnet... and running away giggling...
probably still somewhere recounting the story!
As usual its magnificent.... I assume its up for a run on Anzac Day (any MP company would love it Im sure! - maybe even as a marshalls vehicle!)
well done.
