I got away from work on time for once (1500hrs) and wasted no time in prepping the underseat tray for a coat of DBG.
It was a mad scramble as I had other things to attend too as well, but as it turned out I managed to fit it all together in a limited time frame
    http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/u...9;t=1349251777
I do hope I didn't miss any areas of the tray otherwise it will stand out
I also know that I painted 3 x 3/16" sealed rivets before, but I thought don't waste time looking for them, just paint 3 more
    http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/u...9;t=1349251811
also cleaned and painted 4 x 2BA hex head bolts n washers etc to hold the tray securely in position, but no pix of same, anyway tomorrow I have to trim a bottle brush tree on the footpath, then fit a new switch to my 110, meantime the DBG will set rock hard, cheers Dennis

The well meaning plans of mice n men sometimes go west, as they did yesterday, the tree is still standing, it will have to wait.
Meanwhile I spent an awful lot of time looking for this item
    http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/u...9;t=1349412843
I had previously grit blasted and painted one, but it has disappeared!!, it has now been painted black and waiting to be fitted.
It has been very hot here today 35c, I'm not a lover of the heat, but I had to use some heat to make up the new fuel pipes, here they are connected to the fuel tap
    http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/u...9;t=1349413012
now that the fuel lines have been made I could turn my attention to refitting the hasp that holds the center cubby box lid shut
    http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/u...9;t=1349412782
after rivetting in the front mounting plate for the underseat box, I proceeded to fit the box in place with it's 2BA hex bolts
    http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/u...9;t=1349412891
it was slightly more difficult than I had experienced in the past. The 2 front bolts lined up perfectly, the 2 on the side well , this is what I had to use to get them to line up!!
    http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/u...9;t=1349412917
yes I know it looks rough, but it only had to be lifted approx 1/16", then both bolts lined up and screwed home.
By this time I was ready to fit both covers (yes they are fitted in a previous pic) over the fuel tanks, I was missing 6 screws etc. I have been cleaning up in the shed and moving items around and it took some time to find them, but very pleased at being able to find them and not have to do another set
    http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/u...9;t=1349412898
now all I need is a set of front seats, I'm still having an ongoing debate with myself as to whether I will buy a set of Rocky Mt door tops with double sliding glass or just use what I have, decisions decisions, anyway cheers Dennis
ps late last week I pulled muscles in my lower back, by doing something stupid, I kicked a heavy piece of yard gear n put the muscles out, it has been a long week and it's slowly coming good, although I had my doubts about stretching over the seat box making fuel lines etc LOL, temper temper,,.

    Back to the job

    Hi Dinty

I can sympathise with you with your back, just time and rest.

I was wondering if clear lacquer sprayed over those brass and copper parts would keep them looking pretty.

    Something to sit on!!

Well after a long wait these big boxes arrived this morning, I wonder whats in them, a set of seats of course, many thanks to the forum members with tips etc on who to call (not ghostbusters), anyway I have unpacked them.
The smaller of the two has the seat bases for my 110, they have been fitted, they differ from the originals, in the fact that you cannot adjust the front angle of the seat.
113-372's seats will have to wait a few more days, as I would like to paint the wood and fit a strip of rubber to the wood that will be sitting on DBG, I don't want to unduly scratch the paint for no reason

    anyway cheers Dennis

    Just when you think!!

Just when you think you are making some headway something always comes along just to keep you occupied .
I unpacked the big box of seats etc on Wednesday afternoon, checking each n everyone of the 6 items, somebody didn't do their job properly in quality check back in the UK, this is what I found on one item
    http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/u...0/IMG_0684.jpg
not entirely pleased about it, I can assure you, not a lot one can do when you are on the other side of the globe.
Moving right along, all items are currently insitu, my first impressions on sitting on them, reminded me of my son's V8 jap diesel thing, his seat (drivers) was comfortable enough but riding in it the seats were built for midgets weighing 25kgs, anyway it rode like a solid suspension dray, back to my seats, I thought they were hard, the wife said they are OK, hhhmmm I thought

Yesterday afternoon I wanted to try out a old timing light on 113-372, Lo n behold after connecting the battery and pressing the starter, nothing happened???!! (insert favourite French swear word/s here), quick check of the battery with multi-meter OK, all leads clean n dry, terminals free n clean, swmbo pushing starter button check with test light, AAHHaaa it appeared that the fault was in the starter switch. Swap out the switch feeling pleased with self that I found the problem so easily, WRONG it still wouldn't start, so under we go swmbo holding the switch open, we were able to light up the test light at the starter terminal, I'm running out of usable light, so a quick PM to Dave aka BLknight for some advice as to what to look for next. Dave responded quickly and I followed his diagnosis without any luck, I knew I had a couple of spare starter motors in the shed, they were located and checked, they both worked yeeha
I had to do a 'Op Rubic's cube' to get 113-372 out of the carport, several vehicles later and pushing for time as swmbo was going to the hairdressers, the pressure was on, anyway I couldn't crank start 113-372, so I towed it with 112-501 aka 'Chloe', after shifting all the others back into place, and letting the Poodle Patrol out with much gusto n barking, I set about removing the starter motor.
I thought about the trouble I had when I took the starter out of 'Wee-Wullie' a few years ago, and how it jammed my hand and took off a huge flap of skin off my right hand, I couldn't afford to let that happen again as I have shifts booked (some 16hr days) up until next Wednesday 7th Nov, the thought crossed my mind remove the LHS wing No way I said to self, we will get it out from underneath.
Tools at the ready, disposable gloves on, protective eye wear and I had the starter motor out in around 10 minutes, undid the nut on starter battery cable (1/4"W spanner) then the 2 x 3/8"UNF (9/16AF spanner) nuts holding the motor, lifted it forward then tilted it backwards n downwards out through the gap between the block n exhaust, fitting was the reverse order, all up job took 25 minutes, and it now spins over n starts quick as, the offending item will get a look at in the near future

Things have been a bit slow, way too much work and other associated issues, remember this starter motor problem

well today (because I'm bored ) I took it apart, my neighbour across the street was an auto sparkie, he took a look at the end of the commie, and basically said,'mate I think it's U/S, BUT you could check to see if it has a dead short to earth.
Anyway dejectedly I went home, looked at it again and thought bugger it!!, I will check to see if it has a short circuit in the commie, well blown me down, it didn't , so I set it up (roughly) in my lathe and skimmed the front face of the commie, taking just the smallest amount off the face, smooth it off with 600 wet n dry, check again for a short circuit, NONE, the Ohm meter didn't move, so I thought what the heck put it back together, connect a jump start, and away it went, so my afternoon wasn't a complete loss, the starter is the 6cyl variety

It's been fairly quiet down here Series 2A wise since I had purchased a Series 1, well you can't be doing anymore than 1 job at a time. Anzac Day was the last time all the vehicles were out together and with Broke Village Fair looming large on the horizon, I asked a couple of mates if they would be interested in driving the odd vehicle and camp overnight, well I had 3 volunteers in no time, all they needed was 20Lts fuel and food.
Op Rubic's cube was partially swung into action to get 2 Bronze Green Land Rovers out of the shed on Saturday 7th ready to leave after lunch, I had packed my swag and a few other items needed to sustain myself overnight, Temperatures were supposed to be very high, this caused my mate Ken (8 Fld Amb veteran Sth Vietnam) to pull out, he was driving his own modern Jeep, in fact it was quite cool overnight and pleasant on Sunday.
Well out into the traffic with the hoards of tourists that seem to invade our part of the world every weekend, dunno where they all keep coming from but sometimes I wish they would bugger off and find somewhere else to go, anyway our roads are pot holed patches out around Pokolbin en route to Broke, the inevitable traffic controls, three of us got through but John in the gunbuggy was stopped by a red light
    http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/u...pse0348d5b.jpg
here we are waiting for the lights to change and John to catch up, that's Minikeg driving 112-501 and Gordon in 112-580, we waited until the long line of traffic had proceeded past us, this enabled us to just plod along at around 40/45MPH, a very comfortable speed in a shortie, we arrived in Broke around 1500hrs and took up our parking places for our overnight stay.
I advised Scott aka Minikeg & Gordon to roll out their sleeping gear and set while it's still daylight, nothing worse than trying to juggle a torch and roll out a swag etc, my wife drove out later in the evening accompanied by 'Monty' he is a little Pomeranian loves being in the vehicles, he is also a "chick magnet" LOL well an old bloke needs all the help he can get.
With tea over etc we sat around yarning and with nightfall the temperature dropped and a cool breeze picked up, well at 2110hrs I decided why sit out here in the cold when I could be warm in the swag, in Motel 88, the mossie's were blown away thankfully.
The scene next morning behind Motel 88 at around 0550hrs after a restful night in my swag etc
    http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/u...psfa6ce00f.jpg
Minikeg was grumbling about the time I did snap an image of him but I will let him post it in here if he wants too, after a quick Dingo's breakfast ( a pee n a good look around LOL) experience has taught me to move your vehicles into place otherwise you will not have a space to move into
    http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/u...psd0ea872f.jpg
I only took 2 radios PRC10 in the buggy and a PRC77 in 112-501 (Chloe) and some other small items of kit were placed so I could keep a close eye on them especially the compass
    http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/u...psc51da84f.jpg
Minikeg is now on the lookout for one of the Hot/Cold food containers he was impressed how well they kept things cold.
The crowds and cars etc were well down on previous years probably because some person decided to hold a 3 day event called maitland motorfest at the same time, and also the B/S vote for me or I will fine you on the 7th, we still have our useless fed rep but now in opposition stupid voters around here no wonder our roads are stuffed anyway rant over about that crap.
During the day we had numerous people stop and admire and ask questions, one chap said he worked for Morgan & Morgan (I think) they were L/Rover dealer in Newcastle and had the contracts to repair military vehicles he was interesting to talk to, many people asked if I wanted to buy their Land Rover which I politely refused (too far away and too many $$$'s for wrecks), one very enthusiastic young fellow and his lady friend were suitably impressed with 113-372 (ex Sth Vietnam Provo) he is a serving member of the ADF and with the Provo Corp based at Singleton, he asked permission to sit in it 113-372 and have his photo taken, his lady friend took quite a few snaps to show his mates at work.
There were a few regulars at the show they turned up Sunday morning with their pride n joy, some of you will know them from Corowa etc
    http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/u...ps1ab2303e.jpg
After a long day we decided it was time to move out and head home, we took a different route to avoid the roadworks etc, thankfully the tourists don't know every road and where they lead too so we were able to plod along with too many hassles
    http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/u...psd0a3a082.jpg
all in all a great way to waste 24 hours LOL cheers Dennis

Still fiddling with this electronic coupling, it's a marine coupling as fitted to S2A LRPV's most likely to run 12V drill/soldering iron etc. I have 3 fitted on my replica and 1 in the Bloodbox, and I really wanted another in 113-372, so I set about doing it this afternoon without any success.
I remember when I bought them all some years ago now the sales person telling me that they were different to ones sold a few years before, well I must have got 4 the same and 1 ring in!!
I took the panel off 113-372 and fitted the coupling etc before I found the differences
    http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/u...psaf8a68c0.jpg
here are two different plugs, outwardly they look the same but the pin sizes are different, the female one I need will fit the plug on the right in my hand, the other will not, no matter what I did it wouldn't make contact
    http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/u...pscfdee2a4.jpg
    maybe another day cheers Dennis

A parcel from the UK (Dunsfolds) arrived this morning, inside were 8 of these minus the 2BA screws of course

I bought 4 for 113-372 and the others for my Series 1, I have fitted 3 to the bonnet, but can't the other until I move the vehicle out, but to accomplish that task I have to move 5 vehicles , here they are on a very dirty/dusty bonnet

I also had another fiddle with the electrical coupling that I had been playing with 3 months ago, but since buying a Series 1 I haven't had an opportunity to look at it further. Well today it still wouldn't work with that coupling, and to make matters worse the unit itself has no sound at all, everything powers up and runs through etc but no sound, I tried roughly connecting another speaker still nothing, the unit is a 'Clarion' DXZ386USB, sadly even though it's had little use, it's well past it's warranty as I bought it in 2008, anyway cheers Dennis
