It has been a while since I have posted in this thread, lots of things have happened as well.
I did find the problem with the turn signals blowing fuses, and I'm a little embarrassed to own up to the mistake (all my own doing ) all I can offer for the blunder was I must have been looking over my bi-focals instead of through them, I had crossed 2 wires on the regulator Sth Pacific (Ian) indirectly steered me into looking at the regulator, there it was, anyway all fixed now.
Back in August, you know one of them daze when you shouldn't go out,
well today was one of those days (daze),. I have had this little intermittent problem with 113-372 with the brakes, one application and they stay on , I've been back tracking it and worked out that the problem is in the pedal mainly in the bronze bearing that the pedal hinges on, it's way too tight. There isn't a grease nipple fitted so after ratting around various bits etc I found a suitable grease nipple 90deg bend etc 1/4" x 28TPI, a bit of a fiddle to fit it but managed to screw it in only to find it's pointing down away from me, a closer look with a torch shows that it could or rather looked like it needed to go a full half turn, so on with a 3/8"AF spanner and I turned it, only to find it went loose all of a sudden!!! %$#@ *&^ I snapped it off (swear words+++) my mind was shouting at me you bloody fool, anyway luck was on my side (for once) I managed with my small fingers to get an easy-out into place and it screwed out without too much fuss
    http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/u...0/IMG_0484.jpg
Gee I thought I was lucky finding that lonesome grease nipple, what were the chances of finding another, mine n zilch= none
think lad, I knew I had this little pile of nipples but sadly all the wrong thread size
    http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/u...0/IMG_0483.jpg
I checked my supply of pintle hooks, they have grease nipples, again wrong size, where can I get a nipple at 1645hrs in this town, nowhere was the answer, then I remembered borrow, the one fitted to the handbrake bell crank, this did the job, and now the pedal is allowing the brakes to come off (after a liberal squirt of grease), , I suppose the proof will be in the driving, so thats gonna have to wait for a week or two.
Well I did get to drive 113-372 on it's first trip out of town, a trip to Broke Village fair, it was not without drama's, cheers Dennis

Saturday 8th September, nice sunny day, lots of things to do and sort for an overnight stay out at Broke, it is about 15 miles from home or near enough.
All packed n fuelled up, I headed over to Ken's place, he was tagging along in his Jeep with his 2 little Maltese Terriors (warriors LOL), all's good as we head out of town towards Pokolbin, lots of tourists enjoying themselves, 113-372 running well or so I thought.
About 25 minutes into the trip and less than a 1 mile from our destination, a loud clatter n bang followed by GGGGRRRRRRRRRR sound, a quick look at the oil pressure gauge, it's showing just above 20psi at idle (hot), I roll to stop where I can get safely out of 113-372,

motor still running, noise still very evident, lift bonnet to see the generator hanging in at an angle hitting the multi bladed fan, turn off engine, get down n under to see what happened.

the 5" inch long 5/16"UNF bolt n nuts etc is missing, nothing else on a Land Rover is that long, so Kenny stays with 113-372 while I walk back several hundred meters to find it, fat chance I say to self, but lo n behold there it was laying in the middle of the road, what luck!!, a short wait while the exhaust cools, with lots of clowns honking horns etc, to which I replied by 'Flipping the Bird", thinking about it later, I know why it came loose. Back in 2009 I bought 2 NOS belts from Hilton P, I had a lot of trouble just fitting one belt, so I tightened up the tension bolt thinking that after the engine had run for some time, it might stretch and I could maybe get the other belt on, that was the last time I thought about it LOL, a chap in a toyota did stop, he looked like a farmer, but in fact he lived in Yagoona and is a member of the AAMVC + owns a S3 GS?.
Anyway problem kinda sorta rectified we completed our trip and set up camp, no campfire as a total fire ban was in force
It was a very cool night, I slept in Motel 88, aka the back of 113-372, in my swag, it was a restless night as my feet were hanging out on the tailgate, the local Kookaburras were at it early, I took this image @ 0545hrs

so I figured time to get up and mark off my territory (rope it off for other club members, not pee on the trees LOL)
here is a blurred image of Motel 88, with the spare step for vertically challenged people like me

I quickly had breakfast, and boiled my british army kettle for a coffee

then sort of sat back and watched the place fill with cars n trucks etc.
Meanwhile other club members arrived, I had a S2 C/R for company

It was hot n dusty, did a lot of talking, a lot of Land Rover experts out there met up with quite a few people that I only see at this time of the year, talking with one of them, he is taking his Indian pattern Chev to Normandie 2013, thats way out of my league, I wished him well and please take lots of pix to share with us, also met up with fellow AULRO members, and a few people who were chuffed at finding out that I wasn't a spray painter, panel beater/mechanic, giving them a whole new lease of life to help restore their Land Rover at home in the garage.
About 1330hrs I was ready for home, fingers XXX'd etc, I headed off, we made it past where the bolt fell out , all the way home I was waiting for something to happen, and it did.
I had just turned onto Allandale road just down past the airport, I noticed the temp gauge was trying to climb into the oil pressure gauge , the vehicle was still running well, no tell tale signs of anything amiss, so I pressed on home, it was under 2 miles, when I turned down into my street, I switched off the engine, it ran backwards for sometime, this was the sight that greeted me

I let it cool down for about 90 minutes, then replaced the the water only to see it running out of the water pump hole, the seal had gone, after all the trouble I went too, keeping the block filled with water n coolant etc, turning the water pump over periodically, it still failed, anyway I have another new pump in the shed, but after looking at the mess under the bonnet, I thought it's going to take some time to clean it all up

a quick wash lifted some of the crud, the day was getting away so it would have to wait for later in the week, meanwhile start looking for the spare pump, cheers Dennis

Later that week, after searching Hi n LO in all things (cabinets/boxes etc) looking for the new H2O pump, I had a thought, it could be up with some radio gear in the loft, whilst getting a ladder to get up high enough to see, I managed to dislodge the hook end of a come a long winch which hit me on the temporal region of the skull, it did hurt , anyway I found the pump .
I wiped it over with thinners then painted it with VHT paint 'Ford Grey'
    http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/u...IMG_0521-1.jpg
the next step was to make a gasket as I didn't want to waste half a day driving to n fro Newcastle for a $6.00 gasket, suitable gasket material was found and punched out using an old water pump body
    http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/u...IMG_0522-1.jpg
a little while later it looked like this
    http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/u...IMG_0523-1.jpg
in the meantime I painted the front of the pump and it was ready to fit
    http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/u...IMG_0524-1.jpg
The next morning I removed several items off the LHS wing, to make it just a tad easier on the gut n back
    http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/u...0/IMG_0525.jpg
After slackening off the bolts on the generator etc, removing the fan belt, take off fan n pulley, undo the nuts n bolts around the pump it was soon off, a quick hit with air to remove most of the residual water, quick scrape with a blade across the mating surface, apply gasket an new pump, half way there in no time or so I thought!!!
On attempting to refit the double row pulley the 1/4"UNF bolts would not start??? I could see no reason as to why they wouldn't start, so I removed the pump again, I could then see that the flange had been tapped a metric thread, no problem, I recut them in 1/4"UNF in no time
    http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/u...0/IMG_0527.jpg
the tapping handle looks cross threaded, but it is just the wide angle of the lens, about 15 minutes later I was back where I was about 30 minutes before anyway it all went together nicely gave it a little time for the gasket to settle in, replenished the radiator with water, and took it for a spin around the block, well as usual Murphy's Law prevails, petrol running out of the Union nut on the carburettor, it looked like it had gone out in sympathy with the water pump. We had a storm brewing so I packed up and left it until the next morning. The Union nut had come loose, I'm very cautious with that nut as it's easy to strip the thread in the carburettor body this happened to us up near Piliga NSW about 36 years ago, a mates S1 (had 2 1/4lt engine) he stripped it made for a long tiring costly journey home, anyway after I nipped it up, so far so good, cheers Dennis
ps as for the balance of the fan, it was only the first 3/16"<<>>1/4" of the blades that touched the pulley on the generator, I have looked at it with strong light and it appears to be running all in a line, nothing appears to be swinging out of balance,,.

Well I'm almost up to speed on this, you should never let anything sit idle for too long as it takes time to catch up, anyway I'm now only 3 days behind.
After nipping the fuel line up the cooling system still had a leak, which was very obvious the next morning, a quick check and I found the source of the leak
    http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/u...ps3eab49c1.jpg
so off with the part to see why.
It wasn't too long before I worked out what went wrong here, the supplied gaskets for the thermostat housing were too thin!!, so I made 2 more using thicker gasket material, while I was at it, I thought I might make the surface flat n shiny by working it over on my small surface plate
    http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/u...psd2475030.jpg
it all went back together and no more leaks.
Last Thursday I removed the RHS fuel tank, because the fuel filler tube had a minor leak, it was one of several s/hand ones I had put away for a ?? rainy day but with a small leak I condemned it and got another. I have found over the years the best way to replace them is to remove the tank (88" Land Rover only, 109 much easier) with swmbo assistance + my h/duty trolley jack the job was knocked over quickly.
I had been running a temporary fuel line, and decided to replace that with fuel lines made from copper, so all the bits were in the shed and it wasn't long before I had made it up RHS only at this stage
    http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/u...psf07f857a.jpg
connected it all up, connected the battery, hit the starter, but all it did was fire n stop, fire n stop, fire n stop , I started to think, fuel lift pump dead, crikey what else could go wrong
I disconnected the newly made fuel line and quickly rigged the old (temporary) one back up, hit the starter, Vrrooom she runs, scratch head for a minute, I must have an air leak, it has to be in the flexible pipe.
    http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/u...psd74ab38e.jpg
Well both NOS flex pipes were U/S as they allowed me to suck air through them when blanked off, so into the rubbish bin with those, now what to make it out of. About 2 years ago I wrecked a S3 FFR, I retrieved some of the old black plastic fuel lines off the chassis and put them aside just for a incident like this, I got one of the flex lines back out of the bin and secured it to the plastic line mainly because of my arthritis (cant hold anything anymore)
worked out where to cut the plastic line, then made up this copper pipe n nut for the other end, cut it to length
    http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/u...ps518657de.jpg
now all I had to do was swage the black plastic line, what to use??? scratch head, I used the locking pin off the Nato hook, boiled the kettle, poured water into cup, insert plastic fuel line, hold in hot water for a period, then push Nato pin down into it, I managed to get it to go in for approx 22mm, then repeat operation to get copper end into place and remember to face it 180 degrees from the top fitting, this is what I ended up with
    http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/u...ps1128a069.jpg
it is still to be fitted n tried, I went to the Expo yesterday and was busy doing something for Inc this afternoon, so maybe tomorrow, at least now I have caught up for now, cheers Dennis

Well as usual work always seems to get in the way of play, and this morning 'Murphy's Law' kicked in again, the blinkers on my 110 refused to work (hazard switch U/S) and after working a day & night shift I wasn't keen to be fiddling on the side of the road, anyway all is good with that now. After fiddling with the 110 for some period of time, I decided it was time to play, and fit the fuel line I made last Saturday, here is a picture of it in place, with engine running
    http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/u...9;t=1348728942
no leaks which is good a road test soon will confirm that, cheers Dennis

    Moving right along!!

As most of you would know 113-372 is not yet finished and I still need to move on. Lotza Landies called here this morning and took a few items Nth to the cross border event Thank You Diana.
Anyway after buying a few items to help tidy up the interior of my shed LOL, it's still a mess , I thought this afternoon I would tidy up the under seat compartment, it had surface rust, well what else would you expect on a near 50 year old vehicle, I went about it with a new cup wire brush on one of my angle grinders, cleaning off most of the crud n dirt etc, this is what it looked like after a quick hit with the angle grinder
    http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/u...9;t=1348898205
and after about 5 minutes with my portable grit blaster
    http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/u...9;t=1348898290
anyway I ran out of grit, so it has been put away I don't think it will rust too much over the next day or so, anyway cheers Dennis
PS I made the mistake of deleting a picture from photobucket, not realising it would disappear from the site dumb n dumber LOL, anyway here is the picture of the fuel line insitu while engine running n no leaks
