    Gotta say though, VERY NICE!
You're right there Gav, there were at least 800 orders, and as Disco has said, yes, the VERY special LS9 engine built for the ZR1 Corvette was/is in short supply. I think there was some doubt that they would be able to source 300 engines, obviously they have.
I'm not sure how the Holden/HSV thing works on profit for these cars, but I think HSV would be the major beneficiary.
HSV have priced the car at a very reasonable $170K,(I reckon they could've added at least another $30K)...well that is the RRP, but by the time "other charges" go on, driveaway appears to be over $200K. When we bought our new AMG C63 a few years ago, ,I did the calculation then, and a third of the driveaway price was made up by some form of "tax"/"duty" etc,...just the way it is.
Of course the "W1" is only one of the 2017 range recently released, there is the GTSR, GTSR Malloo etc,..all in great demand. Whilst things have been ok for HSV sinse the release of the Supercharged LSA engined GTS, there have been "deals" to be had with substantial discount. There will be little or no discount on the new range, in fact, I reckon that the closer we come to the end of Commodore production in October, there will be premiums to be paid, and some people will miss out altogether.
I'm sure you heard about the Holden release, the Motorsport, the Magnum, and unbelievably the "Director". Having known P.B. very well, and been around HDT when "THE" Director became the most well known car in Aussie, I would never have believed that Holden would use this name. They say "time heals all wounds"?

You can buy LS9 crate engines for $20,000 Aus plus freight direct from the US,I don't know why GM would only release 300 of them because a two minute search found plenty for sale.In regards to it being from the ZR1 'vette, the engine in the ZR1 was made by Lotus in the UK and shipped to the US,the LS9 is just the LS7 with a supercharger. So if you want a W1 it's easy, buy a garish coloured HSV,buy second hand because they are worth nothing after 3 years,so 35K for a low millage HSV,20K for a motor, another 10K for everything else and your done,a W1 for $65,000. I looked and couldn't find any low milage F Gen for $35K. Cheapest F Gen are Maloo utes all above $40K. HSV GTS F Gens start at $60K.

I agree it is very expensive at $170K plus but it is cheap compared to some of the other cars offering similar performance.

Why call it the W1? Does this mean there will be a W2?
As a guess, I think it maybe homage to Tom and W2 may be an opening for Ryan.

The LS9 is an iimportant part of the W1, a VERY important part, but it's not the only part.
If you care to investigate the R&D behind not only the W1, but any car, if it is to be a car like it's predecessor, the GTS, which incidentally has been universally described by 100% of the Aussie motoring press, as the best Aussie muscle car, EVER,...not my words,...ya can read it anywhere, if ya want to, but if you did have any knowledge at all about what goes into a car like the GTS or the W1, or the Falcon GT with it's Aussie designed supercharged engine, ya'd know it ain't just about dropping in an engine, ..if that is your view, you are of course entitled to it.
The LS9 has a dry sump, the plumbing/installation behind that is complex, as are all of the additional coolers for the transmission, diff etc....check out how many additional coolers are involved,....ya can check that out too, but ya probably won't.
The GTS was driven around Winton by John Bowe & compared with the E63 AMG,..costing twice as much,..you can check what Bowey said,...and He is, if you know him, someone who says it how it is.
The W1 is a step up again from the GTS,..even quicker, and so it should be.
Mate, your comment "The LS9 is just the LS7 with a supercharger" is absolute rubbish, and exhibits that you have really done your research!!..Yeah right. The LS7 is actually a 7 litre engine, with TOTALLY different internals to the 6.2L LS9,...it's a different engine. You could check that out too....if ya're interested.
If ya're interested ya could also by Wheels magazine out today, Motor will probably be better when it comes out.
But Pat, ya know what, I feel that you won't believe anything I've said, or definitely more importantly than anything I have to say, what Australia's best motoring press has to say,... but I'm cool with that.
    All is good, Pickles.

    Lol!!
    Thanks Pat.
And of course, you are right, you could build something up with similar, or even better performance.
But it's the fact that it's a "Factory" car that gives it "cred",...just like the GTHO I guess,..plenty of faster "Replicas" around, well not even replicas in some cases, just faster XYs, but it's the original XY GTHO that has the "cred". Hopefully people that buy this car will see some of that.
We've had a few V8s, the best one being our AMG C63, but if the supercharged HSV GTS had been around then we probably would've bought that,..at half the price.
We don't have a V8 any more but Wifey has an Audi RS3, which accelerates quicker than our C63!
What sort of V8s have you owned?
    Pickles.

Just heard today (from the FIL of the manager of a local dealer) that the Driveaway price for these is $230k. He still sold 3 this week.

Yes, I've heard that too, but there are also reports of lesser & higher pricing,...I think dealers are naming their own price in some instances.
There will be a lot more info concerning this car in the Press in the coming months, but if anyone has access to the Herald Sun "CarsGuide", there is a short precis on the W1 on pages 12 & 13, including a description of some of the hurdles encountered by HSV in getting this project to reality.
