I have to agree with Pat's comment that they are really just a pumped up Commodore (Taxi) and I can't see the justification for spending anywhere near that kind of money. You would need access to a race track to be able to unleash anywhere near its full capacity ....................... and most people don't have access to a racetrack.

But I have no problem with whatever choice anyone else makes in a motor car .................... some of my mates bag me for buying a Land Rover. ;)

A mate of mine in Perth bought one of the HSV GTS models when they first came out. I've been for a drive in it - very impressive grunt and technology - even had just about every racetrack in Australia programmed into it's on-board computer system so that it could tell you how well you drove each "track" ..................... if you could ever get access to a track and could be bothered. My mate actually does have access to a couple of well known tracks around the country, given that he races on them regularly with another car he owns, but even he never got to drive the superfast taxi on any of them. He has since sold it ..................... for considerably more than what he paid for it off the showroom floor ...................... so yes, they do seem to go up in value in the eyes of some. :D

I just had to have a quiet chuckle at the mention of the "VERY" special LS9 being a "VERY" important part of the W1. Not having a go at you Pickles ............................ just reminded me of "VERY" special agent Anthony DiNozzo .................................... you aren't an NCIS fan by any chance, are you. :p

Speaking of desirable Aussie muscle cars ........................... many years ago, I owned a GTHO. It was an XW (which I prefer to the XY) ......................... wish I still had it, even if only for the dollars I could now sell it for. :D

BMKal, never owned an HO, but I did own an A9X, before which I knocked back another A9X,...for $10K,...same car just sold for $260K!!....I've never seemed to make any money on cars, in fact I normally lose,...the only exception being a very long time ago when I bought an absolutely immaculate one owner 1951 Ford Twin Spinner for $300, and after a few years of ownership, I sold it for $750!!
Re the LS9, well yes it is special, previously only used in the Corvette ZR1, and when I initially heard HSV would put one in a Commodore, I said no way, it'll never happen,..too much engine for a Commodore, so I was dead wrong there.
"NCIS",...no don't watch it regularly, so no connection there!

Maybe he is ashamed to admit that a mass produced 5.3 litres of Pommy V12 is more of a collectors car than a run of 300 over priced P o s dunnydores:eek:.
Sorry i worked for 19 years at their Proving Ground and its a boring over priced P o s .
Will it be collectable yes would i own one NO each to their own;)

I've been to the proving ground on several occasions,...even took my A9X around the oval "speed bowl". I've had a few other V8s around there as well, & also ridden in a red Camaro that was under review there.
A young guy I knew who was working on auto electrics with Holden was also stationed there,...he loved it, but He was unfortunately retrenched with many others.
As far as the E Type is concerned, V12?..nice car, I would rather have the V12 myself, but it is not as collectible as the 6 cyl version, particularly the early 3.8 versions.

E type of course yes but you will find what garry has is far from a collectable in terms of a E type in my opinion;)

Lang Lang?....No, not short, but absolutely LOVED being there, being a totally committed Holden person, like his family.
"Collectible"?...to be honest, that aspect of a vehicle purchase has never concerned me one iota,....if I'm able to buy it I do, and I enjoy it while I have it. Wifey's ok with that,...she says well at least you get something back, if you were into gambling etc, ya get nothing back.
Funnily enough, the best car "investment" We've ever made, may be our '13 Defender 90!

And of course, you are right, you could build something up with similar, or even better performance.
But it's the fact that it's a "Factory" car that gives it "cred",...just like the GTHO I guess,..plenty of faster "Replicas" around, well not even replicas in some cases, just faster XYs, but it's the original XY GTHO that has the "cred". Hopefully people that buy this car will see some of that.
We've had a few V8s, the best one being our AMG C63, but if the supercharged HSV GTS had been around then we probably would've bought that,..at half the price.
We don't have a V8 any more but Wifey has an Audi RS3, which accelerates quicker than our C63!

Two,the mighty 3.9 in the D1 but years ago an L34 spec 308 in a one tonner.I stupidly fitted a full spool sals,bloody thing never drove straight,in the wet it was seriously dangerous.I ended up swapping it out for a slippery diff and sold it to my elder brother.Between us we got it running sweet,it started first kick and idled smooth,not an easy thing to do,but got the bug for an LC Tori with a 186 fitted with a yella terra head,twin strombergs and XU1 spec cam,that thing hauled arse but ran rough,the cam spec made them that way.We had lots of stuff like that back then,even weird combinations like a 202 in a Corona,it worked except the driveshaft wasn't parallel so at certain rev's it felt like riding a vibrator :o.Those were the days. I am very familiar with all of that, and more, but,....202 in a Corona?,....nope, never came across that one.

Well no - just because some random on a forum asks a question doesnt mean there is an obligation to answer.

I know what I own and I am happy with them.

If I had the cash to park it in a garage with a bunch of other driver options I would buy one. If it wasn't the last I probably wouldn't. IMHO, being only 300, that car with matching engine trans and chassis will be worth more than $200k in the near future.
