    All the other stuff comes up Ok, so not sure what it might be... I might just have a look at the user manual and see if I'm working it properly.

    Well a long time coming but I finally took the hevac unit apart with mixed results.
    My fan speed knob never made any difference the the actual fan. After finding several loose bits inside there is a small trident shaped copper connector which is stuck to the inside of the knob. This was detached so after an hour of trying to work out where it came from its stuck back and fan speed is again changeable.
    The LCD screen ribbon cable was unstuck and curling at the edges so I tried cleaning with switch cleaner and refixing. Try as I might I can get all sections going but not all at the same time.
    I think the answer would be a new ribbon cable but not sure if a generic one might do.
    Any computer buffs out there with ideas.
