    Hevac lcd repair possible?

Just wondered if anyone has had a go at repairing a faulty hevac lcd. There is a guy in the UK who does it professionally so its possible but what about DIY. I have read on Mercedes forums that the ribbon cable connections come unstuck on their cars and can be fixed by wedging them closed.

What's actually wrong with your display? Not just the bulbs blown?

Its not the bulbs, the screen is blank in random sections and works in others. lightly rubbing over the surface can effect a positive change but not for long. I am not clever enough to understand the workings of these screens but it seems to me the lcd is some kind of sandwich and it is coming apart in sections.
The working of the hevac system is not effected.
I have a similar larger screen on another car, a Merc which goes blank completely but a light drag of a fingernail across the surface brings it back to life.

Possibly the silicone rubber/carbon connectors on the edges of the screen, You could try dismantling it, cleaning the edges of the LCD and the silicone rubber/carbon connectors, then reassembly.

I have some pics of mine when I pulled it apart (just to take some pics) here:

I will give it a go soon, The Hevac unit and stereo will be coming out as soon as I get time as I am about to fit a Sub and amp and new radio aerial missing from mine when purchased, If I can see a way to fix it I will take pics and post.

Umm, they don't have an external aerial. The aerials are on the rear quarter window glass (one each side).

    On the subject...

I never seem to see the AUTO word pop up on my screen anymore when selecting the Auto function.

Does anyone know if there is an associated fault that I need to get cleared? Or is it perhaps one of those pesky little globes in Ron's procedure?

Oh yeah Wayne don't go putting an antenna on your P38 unless its a big bugger UHF one!!!

As there is only a single bulb illuminating the screen, it's unlikely to be that (assuming you can see other text on the screen).

I can't think of any reason why it doesn't work (assuming it is switched on and the Auto button pressed).

Yes I know but when all the gubbins attached to the window has been butchered by the previous keeper its no so easy to get it working, trust me I have tried, even putting in an aftermarket window aerial. It don`t work so a rubber ducky is winging its way to my letterbox. If you didn`t know my car came from ebay as a do-er- up-er with lots of issues and an owner with cash flow problems.

UHF antenna was the 1st thing fitted along with the UHF set, soon it will have a rubber FM friend.
