    Hi,
had my 98 4.0 with a full rebuild from sam at Rangeland. New Top hat liners and European pistons etc etc to a slightly larger size. Im not a mechanical kinda person but the car now is awesome and from what I had done, I think Sam does a great job and knows his p38's front to back. I decided to kep the car original. Did discuss the larger engine and different types of engines but eventually settled on rebuilding from scratch the 4.0ltr.
    Highly recommended

Q/Q is there anything you can do to stop the liners from moving like change oil more often or additives.

We just fited a TRS 5 litre to an Autobiography P38a, yes they do go well, and yes the forged pistons are a little noisy when cold, but well worth it if towing IMO. The extra torque from the cubic increase is noticeable down low, this engine ran a standard cam and heads, port matched but left alone flow wise. The next item on the agenda is to send the ECU to UK for a remap, as it would benefit a LOT from it IMO.

Even though it was reasonably expensive cmpared to a 4.6 with top hat liners etc, it does feel worth it driving it.

Main thing is owner is happy

    Any more Q's PM me.

UK derivatives can be shipped here for around 10-11K icluding import and taxes etc
Triumph Rover Spares Adelaide 12-14K for a reasonable specked 5.0L
    Bruce Davis around the same.
Upgrades in heads etc and the price goes up.

I am running an early Bruce Davis 5.0, haltech and injected gas definitely enjoy the extra power but i really couldn't justify the money to pay to have it done. It is noticable but not earth shattering. If you are in Sybeny Bruce had a car done that i could test drive to see what i was getting or find someone with one so you can drive it. I bought the car with the 5.0l already done. Having driven the later models there isn't much driving performance between an older p38 5.0l and a new 2000+ p38 but probably under towing i think the 5.0l has a little more torque.

Looked at the LS1 options and yes probably better but a fair bit of mucking around but doable. 15K probably a good price for a good conversion.

    I still love my RANGIE!

Ps there is one of the best setup off road P38's and a later model 4 sale see forum post expedition ... for more details if you interested in a off road vehicle. Certainly worth considering and talking to the owner before spending serious dollars on an engine upgrade. Remember it is only 400cc so yes it is better but it still isn't LS1 territory etc

    Hi Remy,

It is a standard Australian market GEMS 4.6 ECU, I was most interested in a Tornado or similar chip, I have found they are replaceable here after ordering from RPI or similar. I have had some bad experiences here with so called Dyno tuners etc so prefer the pre mapped plug in EPROM chip with a lot of development hours behind it. Had heard good things about Tornado ones so awaiting a reply to emails at present.
