new key fobs can only be obtained from the LR factory in the UK. Provided you are completely certain that the doorlocks are original then by supplying the VIN etc you can get a new programmed fob to suit the BECM/door lock. So far so good... the bad news is that most LR dealers charge between $600-700 whereas the UK LR dealers charge less than "150 quid" ...less than half the locals...
I ended up getting mine through my daughter who currently lives in the UK and she posted it to me... but LR (UK) supplied the wrong one!!! Took another 6 weeks, a detailed photo of original and one supplied for them (LR UK) to admit their error and provide daughter with the correct fob and key.
(turns out they put the wrong key into the envelope...so someone else out there also has a dud fob and key...)
Local dealers I contacted will not enter into any "correspondence" even if sent the wrong key... you pay up front and "hope" you get the correct key and fob. If so, all you do is insert the key in the door lock, press the button while you turn the key and it syncs with the BECM. I am reliably informed of one service manager at a well known LR dealership who tried to charge $100 to sync the key
Suggestion: If you have a reliable friend in the UK, email them a scan of your rego certificate with the VIN Number plus a scan of your licence. Also send a clear photo of the key blade (both sides). I'm assuming that the door lock is the original one fitted to the vehicle...state this clearly. Ask them to arrange a new one from their local dealer. Because it is to be exported there should be no VAT payable. UK first class mail to Aus in a small padded jiffy bag costs about A$5 and takes less than a week!
cheers
EDIT: airbags don't lose their effectivenss unless they leak. Small surface cracks are not unusual. Best shocks are original Boges ...they're not gassed like Bilsteins or Konis... and they complement the airbags very well. More than suitable for corrugations (did the PRD to Weipa a couple of years ago... all good)
