    Suspension

The P38A i bought has had the EAS changed to springs.

My question is this, how much of a difference does this make off and on road. Can the compressor be removed, or should i replace the EAS.

Just wan some thoughts on the subject.

Personally I love the EAS. It's the vehicles USP. As long as it's working. A total PITA if it's not.

Being able to hunker down in car parks or on highways, then raising for off road stuff is shear brilliance. Not to mention the self leveling for towing.

But to change back could cost you $1,000 in springs (GEN3's) plus some effort (rebuild compressor and valve block) - only you can decide if that's worth it. Maybe hitch a ride in an air sprung P38 to help you decide.

I have recently re-instated the air suspension on my car.
If all the components are still there its very do-able. If not you will have to buy all the bits which can be big $$$$$.
Mine just needed the Valve block re-built and a set of air springs. When I bought the car I made sure everything was still in place or I would have passed.

What is left of the EAS System on your car? Are you getting any EAS fault warnings on the dash readout?

Off road, the EAS is fantastic! As much as you can make coils sing off-road, for all but the extreme off-roader the EAS is fantastic.

There are things you can do to make it better off-road (not that it needs it).

    Hi

A few shots from the LROC training session, going over the wombat holes and the side slopes.

The P38 barely lifted a wheel and stayed very horizontal and stable, stock air suspension.

Compared to the deefers, discos, pumas, heeps, and pajero it sailed through as only a Rangie can

Wow! This is one of the reasons why I won't buy a P38 without EAS. It might be fiddly, but it is one of the main features of the vehicle.

Does anyone know the roof height of a Rangie set to access mode on its bump stops? I have a low garage roof to consider...

One thing I carefully measured in our new house was that I could get under the car port on standard height; it misses by 2 inches.
There will always be that time you come home tired and forget to drop the suspension.

The first time you tow a heavy load with eas you'll never go back to coil! !

It can be a headache, but properly sorted they are reliable and brilliant.

I am in the same boat as you - my garage is an arch shape. I could drive my P38 into the garage in 'standard' height with my ARB shovel holders on before I lifted it. Now I can only fit in if I'm in Access height with 2" of lift. I can't drive in if I've got my Foxwing awning on the top.

Im for the other school of thought loving the simplicity of the coils with polyairs for levelling the load and bilstiens for smooth ride. My friends 01 p38 on air and its awesome but too fiddly for me. I have trouble remembering which button locks or unlocks the car.

I think there both fantastic and that you have the option

    Keep up the Good Work

So has anyone measured roof height of a std P38 on its bumpstops?

I'm thinking Nanocom set access mode to bumpstops and let air out of the tyres to let me get the P38 into my garage. Yes, it's that bad... my XJ Cherokee just gets in.

Otherwise I have to work on the P38 out in the open. Oh bugger...
