It's to do with pump pressure and I believe the late models had a mod done to them to stop this happening

Thanks Steve...not sure that was the cause unless issue eventuate soon after rather than immediately at the time of revving.... I will report back so the thread can be closed out.
Damn mate I hope it gets fixed without spending a heap of money!
Steve
Thanks Steve....the auto store have already got on the job and suspect the pump. Their test is to drop the pan and smear uptake with grease to see if it gets taken up!
I pulled the old filter apart and those metal filings look ominous.
The shop say best case is $2500 for just the pump but they don't warranty it unless they overhaul and can't price til they are in there to see what needs doing
It makes no sense to me to just fix the pump if there is a chance it could stop again?

Mate it might be better to look for a second hand transmission
Steve
Yep. I'd be looking to simply swap out the whole transmission. Sorry to see this. You must be a little peaved - having just bought it.
Fellas I don't think there are many 2nd hand transmissions here in NZ... and if so what might I be getting? You have to be philosophical when you collect Landies... otherwise I would be sitting facing a corner rocking back and forwards while sucking my thumb today.
Good attitude to have. Hold off on the pencils up your nose and the underpants on your head - just for the time being.
I'd certainly be trying to scour the breakers yards. Wonder what shipping from AU would cost? An ebay search of the Aussie ebay site found 4 AT's - ranging in price from $299 to $650. They're normally pretty tough (unburstable) boxes, but like anything, if its not fed clean oil - it'll crap its pants.
Hopefully the garage come back with some positive news.
