OK thanks all!
So crash cans removed before HRA bar installed (i can see that now that i have had a look under the car and obviously no crash cans on HRA bar yet SRS approved?? the only thing that i can think of is that 10mm aluminum brackets fold at the same rate as the crash cans thus decelerometer is not affected if crashed and bags should still inflate and thus SRS approved. It looks like the standard profile HRA mounts on both sides of the chassis to give the extra strength for the winch.
I haven't been able to find out what needs to be done to get a bar SRS certified but i do know that you don't have to crash cars to get one through (from a variety of posts) so if anyone can find a link please put it in this thread.
Given that the HRA bar is 2.5K inc shipping new to me and rare as hens teeth 2nd/hand and not that pleasing to the eyebut as functional as others i can see why others have modified bars such as the ARB. The ARB sahara $1800 and deluxe $2300 bars for a disco 2 are much smarter looking bar on the P38 (in my opinion) but there are then the insurance issues one faces with a non-certified bar. However modification doesn't look that difficult and may be the road i pursue when i realise i cannot find a decent 2/hand bar. I have also heard that a D1 bar will bolt straight on with a few adjustments to the plastic panel under the lights but haven't seen photos. Then there is this aggressive little fella Tubular Winch Bumper A-bar black Land Rover Discovery I - eBay Bumper Bars, Exterior, Car Parts, Accessories, Cars, Bikes, Boats. (end time 04-Sep-09 20:24:37 AEST) (has anyone put this on a D1 and has pics?) which looks OK off the car but may be a little too much
. Anyway at this stage i cannot justify 1/3 of the car price on a bar so i need to look at what is available in the second hand market for discos and range rovers and try talking the wife it to the essential need to have a winch bar on the p38. If you have pics of other bars please post your setups
cheers,
Remy
My HRA bar had a label:
Hardy told me that alloy bars didn't need crush cans.

maybe i can get a copy of that sticker![]()
Project bull bar just got jumped by Kaymar rear bar on ebay $950. Now looks like i have some explaining to do and a trip to make - but very happy!
Nice one Remy - it's a good looking bar. Is that Ron's or one of the very few Kaymar bars that actually got made?
Not a big fan of the swing arm on the LHS though. Unless you find a good spot for your number plate on the bar or the wheel, including illumination, you'll probably want to offset it from the original spot on the tailgate.
I have my number plate offset to the left and the wheel arm on the right. Have been told that the police are less likely to give me a hard time this way as speed cameras can still see the number plate on that side
Cheers, Paul.

Another one in Melb. It was only up for a few minutes before i grabbed it. Been in a shed for five years and doesn't have rust. You are right about the swing arm and number plate but the price was good and the bar is in good nick. Slowly but surely i will get this car sorted.
The number plate goes on the bar. You can see the holes for the two number plate lights on the bar.
