Very hard impact into the ground at about 25-30kmh. Resultant damage was a cracked frame smashed phone, and a grade 3 totally torn acl in my rights houlder with the collar bone (I think) moving out of line. Also hurt both wrists and quite a lot of brusies! Seriously it hurt! a lot!

Had to put the bike back together and ride out which was heaps of fun!

Spent a few hours at the medical centre getting x rays and had a surgical consultation last week but they think it will be ok without surgery.

Anyway, I have a reasonable range of movement back now. Doctor and surgeon said I cant make it any worse. Doctor said 8 weeks off the bike, Surgeon wasnt so concerned. He basically said 2-6 weeks.
    Ouch Pete, that's no good.
I got slammed back in April and I'm still feeling it. An afternoon of gondola shuttling to check the bike out before a 6 hour Enduro race. It wasn't the steeps that got me, it wasn't the jumps that got me, it wasn't the trees that got me or the speed.

I was on a flat gravel clearing halfway down the hill, I think I looked back to see how close a mate was following. Front wheel must have gone over a stone and exited stage left. I went straight down onto knuckles, shoulder, then head.
No concussion, but lots lots of skin off knuckles/shoulder, wrenched a lot of muscles, smashed my helmet and made a 2cm egg on the side of my head. No concussion thankfully.

All at about 20km/h on a flat piece of gravel.

Best of luck for your recovery.

Sounds rough Pete....also sounds like it is going to take you a while to recover.

I am going out tomorrow on the bike....going to do Duck Creek Road. Well depending upon if my Series 3 makes it there....but after hearing your story and Dougal's...I will be taking it easy

    Get well soon!

    Cheers Dougal,

Stupid thing is mine was similar. I got caught out on a flat section of gravel track by one of those rubber water bar things. 27kmh, dead stop, over bars into ground. Wasn't concentrating!

Hope yours all heals up soon as well.

At some point I am keen to come over to NZ for a week or so riding.

That's the main cause of most accidents for guys like us. It's only the young guys who keep pushing the limits and running out of talent.

    ROCKSHOX Monarch Plus
    FSA orbit headset
    Rockshox Pike
    Hope M4 stealth front (have)
    Hope M4 Stealth rear (have)
Brake Rotors Hope or Formula (have)
    Zelvy 40mm Carbon on Hope
    RaceFce Next SL crankset 32t
    Raceface bb92 BB
    XTR M9000 11 spd cassette
XTR M9000 11 spd Rear Mech
    XTR M9000 11 spd Shifter
    XTR Chain
    RS Reverb
    Fizik Ardea Vs (have)
Answer Protaper bars (have this will do for now)
Straitline SSC Stem (have this will do for now)
    Nukeprooo Neutron Ti pedals
