Aircon AND vents in a County? Is that a Defender dash and aircon? If not, what variety of aircon is it?

This may cause me some great deal of issue as I will need to rego it in another state as I'm traveling. Now that I think of it, how can you rego a five seater if the rear seats and restraints aren't there? oh well another hurdle to jump when I get to it!
Yes mate, but I am in Qld, perhaps in NSW it is diferent.
Ask the transport office and your insurance company as well about the conversion.
    Cheers

Looks good, but just watch using those fridge slides on their sides. There's definitely not much taking the load when they are like that.
Personally I'd change it so they are up the normal way. Some pieces of steel angle wouldn't take up much space or add much weight/cost but would make it heaps stronger and safer.

Yeah I see your point and have considered it carefully. I'm not worried about safety?? and i have load tested the fridge by filling it to the brim with cans, and even at full extension the sag is minimal it never reaches full extension. I will change the slide to an up right position if I have time at the end of the build, especially now I have built the rear slide in the correct running position and can see the massive difference in strength.

Looking good and I'm watching with interest , I'm just wondering if your bed will be a permanent fixture or are you going to store it higher up and then drop it down at bedtime ?? Will you be using a roofrack for added storage, have you thought about a rooftent instead ?? I was just thinking you might feel a bit cramped for space if stuck in the vehicle for any length of time.

Here's a pic or two of my new toy, I was originally thinking of putting everything onto my Isuzu County but I'm going to restore it instead, maybe convert the County the same in a few years time. It's a clever design and makes a roomy 4x4 camper with two bunks up top and a double bed below.

we did the same aroudn OZ thing in our defender. We had the fridge in teh same spot but no slide. Pretty cramped, and when hot up north we just opened all the doors and windows and had a mozy net attached to the corners. enjoy.

Wow the old pop top!! My dad's mate had one of these in a beautiful series II or what ever it was? I have fond memories of us kids sleeping up in the bunks and of the candy striped lining.
For the duration of the trip the bed will be in a fixed position with a caravan style split matress to help with flipping it over for access below. We will have an Awning/annex off the side in wich we will do our layzing about and living. the gull wing window im going to fit (if it ever bloody arrives) will be our saviour in the cramped conditions, though head room will always be an issue. The origional idea was a roof tent, it would have solved so many problems, but im taking a light weight 12 ft aluminium punt with a 4hp johnson on the roof. Im an insanely addicted fisherman and could not imagine seeing northern rivers and not fishing them.

    at it again.

Hey guys, Ive been at it again.

Went to a mates engineering shop and plotted a ladder out on auto cad. he welded it up in no time flat. I etch primed it and painted it with gloss black rust protection paint.

Also mounted the bonnet wheel mount I now can't lift the bonnet by myself with the wheel on it, but hey it's not on the roof rack taking up space! also mounted twin jerry can holder on the rack.
