It is a shame Fairy did not just develop a version of the LT95 overdrive for the series vehicles. Lubrication is far superior and while failures are not unknown they seem to be a far better product that the series version. Mine which was previously in a stage 1 works really well - the weakest points would be the synchros changing out of O/d back to direct drive.

I wonder how hard it would be to mod it to fit a series.

Grooves and chatter marks on the inside of the overdrive output/transfercase input gear, due to spending too much time in direct drive, can be repaired by machining the gear out to accept a Torrington roller bearing unit with the same internal diameter as the original roller bearing.
The Heystee Overdrive looks interesting. Wonder if its dimensionally the same but with an even greater lube capacity?

    Thanks Wagoo.

No bad money yet... but don't mind spending a few bob getting it into running order though.

"the upper rear gear inside the overdrive appears to have worn through the case hardening" do you mean the 4th photo?

I have tried to find information about the Heystee unit but they havent got back to me yet about details of the unit. It could be based on a Santana unit?

If you want a new drive dog, give Marshall Luscombe at Zenith Engineering in Milton, Brisbane a call. Ph 3369 0459. They make the drive dog and remanufacture the input shaft for Fairey ODs to Toro specs, so should be able to supply one to fit a Toro.

For some reason Sam all the posts appear in reverse order. Eg your original post is the last post on page 3. But the worn gear I was referring to is on the 6th photo from the top.Wear through the case hardening on this gear is common on Fairey overdrives too.

Although the gears and splines of the LT95 overdrive are around 6mm wider than the series models, and couldn't easily be adapted to a series t/case, lack of lubrication and overheating was indeed the main enemy of the series overdrive. Due to the smaller PTO hole there isn't enough space for oil troughs as on the Lt95 unit.A mate of mine kept his series Fairey unit alive for a long time by removing both the input shaft and output gear seals, and then with an electric fuel injection pump from an old Triumph 2.5PI pumping oil from the transfercase into the top of the overdrive, where it would circulate around the unit and flow back through the cross drilled input shaft, through the clutch sleeve splines and back into the transfercase.

The Rocky Mountain Roverdrive is a far superior unit to the Fairey on both Series and LT230. They are apparently about to release one for the LT95.

Back to the Fairey, there was a mod in Sydney, where the seals as you suggested were removed, however instead of the fuel pump. A small funnel was fitted near the top of the transfer case, this was connected by tube fittings and a tube into the side of the overdrive housing. There was sufficient splashing inside the transfer case to fill the funnel and gravity took care of the rest of the oil circulation issues.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

Can you tell that from the light colouring on one of the faces? Or the darker bits to the left?

Sorry Sam, I missed your last post, as I'm receiving them in reverse order that everyone else is.
The second visible gear tooth on the r/h/side of the photo shows what appears to be pitting through the surface hardness. I've seen this alot on Faireys and know it to be the cause of an almost intolerable high pitched screamwhen overdrive is engaged.

Slowly slowly the bird builds their nest....

Killer's contact at zenith engineering is a good one, and can help me out. Thanks again Killer!
I need to remove the Mainshaft and send it up to them to match the gears on the inside of the shaft, but I am buggered if I know how to remove it?

There is a couple of thick spacers and circlips on the other end of the overdrive, is that where I start disassembly? Any pointers would be treaty appreciated by this floundering amateur.
