    My Backdoor Reno

The back of the D2 has been a bit of a mess for a while now, and I have been planning for a while to give it a good clean out and slight renovation. My old dual battery system was in the boot but the box had been smashed by the drawers getting a bit of air time as they wern't really tied down properly... I'm heading to Fraser next week and have recently received a 40L engel for a bday present from all my mates (best present) and really wanted to put it to use next week!

Didn't get a before photo... but it probably looked something like this...

So firstly after half filling a bin with rubbish, removing the drawers and the old dual battery stuff the slate was cleared. I started by buying a new battery box and started adding all the points to it.

The old deep cycle battery, I calculated, must have been atleast 4 yrs old, and it was sitting on 6v for a year. I gave it a charge over night but it wasn't holding it too well so I went for a new battery. It was an expensive option but I think worth it as I wasn't keen on a battery dying on me mid week on fraser Island and all our food/beer going off because of it. After much frustration with wiring and getting everything right, the battery and fittings was re fitted in it's original position.

Next, I decided that the old marine carpet ontop of the drawers was starting to get on and needed something fresh. This decision I figured wouldn't take me too long to change and was rather cheap. I bought rubber from bunnings for around $35 and a bit of adhesive to suit for a further $13.

    The drawers before,

The painful process of removing the carpet by yourself with a blunt metal scraper...

Carpet off, old glue still on

Removed old glue and cleaned over with turps

    Applying the new adhesive

    New rubber! Flash

I was planning on getting a fridge slide as well, but decided against it as I thought there wasn't much point until I build a box ontop of the drawers to go over the the top of the fridge so I can stack ontop of it. So for now there are just permanent tie down points.

Drawers strapped in properly to the floor hoops already present in the disco

And the finished product. Ended up taking 3 days all in all, with some other odd jobs on the car and trailer being done inbetween. (and with terrible weather all week here in Toowoomba, is really frustrating when you are trying to get as much work done in your short break before you head off!)

    **** weather

Other jobs that I have done this week include, new reverse lights (indicators took place of the stock reverse lights when the rear bar was built, have been without reverse lights for a little while), filters and oil service, new tyres for the trailer, fish oiled trailer and car, re painted trailer, replaced rubber between g/box and centre console, replaced rusted out indicator pieces and some other odd job's that have been put off pretty much all year!

Will post up pics of the Fraser trip when I get back!

    Cheers,
    Shamo
