When after a couple of months of not been able to do any work to the cars I have managed to get back out in the shed and do some work. Hum wounder why i hear you ask, I had a little accident and broke my collar bone and now able to use it with a little dificulty.

Ive cut the disco up and retained the bits that i need as a referance once i start moving bits over to the rangie body.

    Stripped disco

    Fisrt cuts

    Front cut off

    Started on the internal parts

I started drilling out the spot welds to remove parts that are needed to be put in the rangie to hold the dash and steering in place. Im looking at using the transmission tunnel and other bits and pieces but hae to wait until ive got the rangie body on the disco chassis.

I have discovered that a 9" grinder makes light work of cutting the pannels up and glad that i did buy one cause using a 4" one would have taken twice as long and 4 times in blades.

I've got more pictures of the stripping and cutting at my gallery page, (link below members.optus then gallery).

The only disco parts that i have keeped is the rear door and the rear wiper motor, the rest has gone to the tip.

Once i have started removing stuff off the rangie i will post them in the spare parts and will dispose of if not taken with a couple of weeks, this will include diffs chassis tails shafts and anything that does not go (gearbox/transfer case sold)

Got the guards off the rangie this week and found a bit of cancer, both sides but the passangers side is the worst. its a bit like reading a book the outside and covers look good but its not till your in the pages you find out how the story onfolds .

So i have a bit more fun with the grinder to remover it.

I got the major dash parts out of the rangie and its starting to look like the disco, only shell. http://members.optusnet.com.au/~jessy/mypic70.jpg

Im off to see the specialist on Monday to see whats going to happen with my collar bone (not sure if it needs to be rebroken as im still having major trouble with it, should have been pined but the doctors know better).

Anyway Ill keep working on it until i cant

Its always funny when people try and tell you that rangies don't rust because they're aluminium..............my oath they do, from the inside out

Things must be done differently in QLD.

DOn't you need to get an engineers cert. for all the mods you are doing. ie. swapping chasis and driveline?

Only only ask this because if you used and engineer then you could get much larger tyres certified and you could get whatever lift you wanted such as 2" spring and 2" body

I saw your ute at gregs the other day its looks great in the flesh

It almost resembles a Defender with all those rivets

LOL. Are you having a go at me again!

Most of those rivets will be painted black so you wont be able to see them. Don't want it looking like a Defender.

Had Greg done anything to the tray when you saw it?

No as of tuesday night nothing had been done , but you know greg he,s a very busy boy (loves a chat)

But there was a frame of a tray in construction in the corner , it looked way too big for what you wanted

I should of added that the pics dont do the ute justice , its better in real life

And no that was,nt a dig

Yep, my first Rangie rusted entirely inside out and when I traded it in I still got $2.5K for it (that was 10 year ago) and the sills, inner wheel arch, chasis, etrc.... Anywhere you could think of really. Plus a knackerd gearbox, engine that blew smoke and a diff that howled so loud even with more moreys than diff oil. It was the most rooted Rangie I've ever owned (learned the hard way with the first one )

Looked good on the outside though!!!

Yes i have to go through a engineer, Qld tpt is calling it a ICV (individually construced vehicle) and yes i could have asked to have a 2" spring and 2" body lift as well as larger tyres(not) as i have to use the same size tyres that the chassis was put out with. in Qld we can only go 15mm over the largest size on the placard for each vehicle, (and before anyone says anything to differ i have it in writing from the Qld Tpt department, you might be able to have 2" tyres put on your car by a tyre shop but legally its illegal)

And with the 2" spring and body im not after it for this vehicle, thats for who ever, im just building it at this point.

NCOP at this stage WILL NOT be adopped by the Qld Transpost department.

Tyres are the same at the moment 15mm above compliance plate i.e.
    RR 89 has two tyre sizes 205R16 + 215/75/16 ,205R = 205/80/16

working on the 15mm rule you get the following:

    215/75/16 = 728.9mm + 15mm = 743.9mm convert this to inches = 29.28"
    205R 16 = 734.4mm = 15mm = 749.4mm convet to inches = 29.5"

    and a 245/70/16 = 734.5mm + 15 = 749.4mm converted to inches = 29.5"

    245/75/16 = 773.9mm a no go tyre

so the largest tyre yo can stick on a 89 RR is a 245/70/16 or a 29x 91/5"
