Great to see at least one of the old girls has survived. Those early Leyland Bros, and Mal Douglas "Across The Top" films are what inspired me in part to put myself in hock for 3 years and buy my first Landy back in 1970 ish.
With respect to the brothers Mike and Mal, I do recall reading an interview with them in an early 4wd magazine many years ago after they started using Jeeps, that the Brothers weren't very complimentary about their LandRovers, listing what they considered an unreasonably high incidence of serious breakdowns and expensive repairs. That may in part explain why little interest was shown when the girls took the old wagon back to visit its famous former owners.
Wagoo.
I encountered them at Old Andado on their trip across the Simpson in 1966, and I am quoted in their book as pointing out that their vehicles were grossly overloaded. This may have something to do with their breakdowns! At that stage I had been working in the desert for over a year and was on my way out on a break (actually drove my 2a, with my brother as a second driver, non-stop to Sydney).

John, have you ever thought about writing a book about your pioneering days of vehicles and exploration in the Simpson?
I've picked up a few interesting snippets that you've dropped in various posts and I would love to see them recorded. For anyone interested in the Simpson and the people who ventured there before much was known about it I'm sure your experiences would make a fascinating read.
Roger
Hey John, I second Roger's idea! Alternatively i'd like to sit around the campfire whilst you tell your stories! There's more than one book's worth in those memories of yours.
