Lets get the old AULRO courier thing happening.
    First leg, Adelaide to Melbourne.
PM me your address and contact details. I'll let you know when I am coming over.

Hey. I'll have it. These things shouldn't be thrown out. I know of a few Holden conversions that need to be unconverted. If Tony needs it for the AYI077 restoration, I'm sure we can get it up to him.

Hi everyone, I have just been alerted by a friend there is some activity over here. (I dont get much time to log in ATM.)

Please do keep the six aside for this restoration.

My PM box is very full ATM so only reliable contact is email tony@spvindustries.com

(I'm seldom in to take phone calls and mobile is much use as an ash tray on a motor cycle out here)

I have been offered two rover sixes locally, but both have no ancillaries and are non runners. (Cooked)

I haven't done a lot with the vehicle to date as still accumulating much needed parts and resources. (She is kept high and dry in a new shed here.)

Good news is, she still runs and is driven every few months. I also take her into the local Christmas street carnival every year. (Main reason I haven't started full strip down)

Once we commit, its going to be a big journey as will be a full strip down to bare chassis.

I have access to a chassis jig on rollers when the time comes.

When I get time, I'll update this thread with needed parts such as door frames etc.

As discussed earlier in the thread, its a very delicate restoration as we must keep the vehicles authentic charm. To do this, it needs to look, feel and smell 40 years old.

    Kind regards,
    Tony

Rightyo Tony...yes I did think that was what Mick was offering but I wasn`t sure. My six was still running but I was suspecting a head gasket starting to blow (pressure in the coolant)...and the water pump drips.....But it didn`t over heat. I have a few spares, carby, distributor drive etc etc I`ll send the whole lot. I may be going to Adelaide in the next few months, otherwise we have a reliable and reasonable freight mob here. Keep us up to date.

    Thanks Tim,

So it hasn't burnt the exhaust valves yet?

I've had very little to do with the sixes as all our series here had four cylinders.

I'd assume we can still get an overhaul kit to freshen it up? Are the water pumps serviceable on these old lumps, or do we need to find a new one?

We'll need to find all the ancillaries for it too. We'll also need a flywheel, clutch, engine mounts, manifolds, engine pipe etc.

The dizzy and starter probably should be rebuilt too so is reasonably reliable for longer trips.

Once done, she's going back on the road and will be going a few road trips too.

It's been suggested to me that we try and re-enact some of the earlier trips this particular vehicle was involved in.
I'll pass on dragging that heavy lump of a caravan thou.

If a rover 2.6ltr six didn't come up, I was going to look for a P5 rover car 3ltr six and hope no one noticed. I believe they go quite well in a 109.

I don`t reckon the valves are burnt, The pumps are rebuildable I believe. The flywheel is fine but rusty, the manifold is there and I have a part of the exhaust (the first bit).

This resto is very interesting. I was inspired by reading the 66 crossing to have a land rover, even though it took many years to get my Disco. Also loved the Off the Beaten track series of this 109. (Yeah - I hated Trekabout in those dammed Jeeps). My other car is a Kombi, and on the Kombi club forum, discussion turns up about their old Kombis from Ask the LB. Might use this thread to wind up the Kombi club!

    Well done!
