Yes, a good member here has captured most of it and is very kindly making a DVD.Traveled home really well on the trailer.... Would have driven home on its own steam no worries. Mechanically very sound for its age. The past owner has put a lot of effort into the running gear. Be the best 2a Ive ever driven other than the clutchWould have been a nice vehicle in its days as fully was optioned with trim etc.
The recent paint will all have to come off so will be done with a lot of care.I'd be so tempted to get some wet-n-dry onto those doors to see if the LB logo is still there.I cant pick it with light angles so may have been feathered back. It's just toooo straight
On this subject I have a Kiwi mate who has a lot of experience in this type of restoration... He also agrees we need to get this thing back to its period and age the paint and trim to this current day and save anything that's within the time scene + reproduce the bits that were custom made at a given time. Can be done with expertise. I've seen his work and is goodJust got to entice him into this some how
He is very interested so that's a start
Had any luck tracking that episode down ?
I would like to reproduce it similar to the pic below. Have both sets of tyres with it when on show as was run with either.
Any one recognise the boat? We need to find one the sameThen the other gear.... camera etc. Be great to replicate most of what they had in the 70's.
I have just purchased two books (Off the beaten Track and Further off the beaten Track) that will now live with the vehicle as should add to its appeal.
Tony
Those tyres were huge, and watching that episode (Trek to the Tip) I don't think Mike and Mal were all that impressed. I recall they made the comment they reverted to Light Truck tyres later, due to the high number of punctures.
You'd need arms like popeye too.
The guards looked very similar to the Mil cut guards - maybe you could source a couple of mil outers?
They certainly liked loading their vehicles up.
Nice project watching progress with interest,if dvd is available at some time i would be interested in purchasing one.
Gidday,
That camera looks to me like a 16mm Arriflex ST with an Angenieux 25-250mm lens on a Miller Wooden Leg 100mm bowl tripod.
Angenieux 25-250mm f/3.2 Type 10 x 25 T2 Movie Lens - eBay, Lenses, Photographic Accessories, Cameras. (end time 25-Feb-10 15:15:35 AEDST)
ARRIFLEX 16 ST 16MM MOVIE CAMERA 3 SCHNEIDER LENSES - eBay By Type, Cameras, Vintage Movie Photography, Cameras Photo. (end time 13-Mar-10 10:33:23 AEDST)
Still sort after gear so it might cost you to get a kit together.
"Ask The Rangier Rover" has a nice ring to it. 16mm film is an expensive but romantic way to make Docos! :-)
Cheers
Ian
This should give you an idea of what the interior looks like now. Would have been nice in its days.

So hard to know what is best to do here. Some of it is a bit far gone to leave the way it is I think.
Most of the doors need repairs for rust so will have to dismantle the door trims either way.
