Would this be on the outside , inside or on top of the chassis (underneath the battery carrier?) The reason I am asking specifically is because I have already removed a heap of paint looking for these numbers!

Actually Robert in 1951 - it should still be on top of the LHS engine mount. The only people who stamped next to the engine mount were Annand & Thompson in Brisbane and in 1951 they were still stamping (where they were supposed to stamp) on top of the mount.

By 1953 they were stamping in front of the mount.

Don't be confused - there should be 2 different numbers - an 8 digit one that commences with 16 (for 1951) is the chassis number - the other (3, 4 or 5 digit) one is the chassis build number that is only used till the official chassis/car number is stamped.

BTW: Near side is the Kerb side for a RHD vehicle. If you're looking near the battery you're on the wrong side.

The reason I quoted "under the battery carrier" is that my Landy has 2 battery carriers ( and 2 fuel tanks + 2 fuel pumps ) these were put into it sometime during the 1950's whilst it was in previous ownership - I am guessing military due to certain other fittings attached. But once again - thankyou.....another series one back on the road.

Some of the other fittings on my 80" - apart from dual fuel tanks ,fuel pumps & batteries are:
- Tac sign holders on the tailgate
- military (WW2) style fire extinguisher on the firewall
- remains of bridging plate on the left front guard
- series 2 military taillights put on at some time
- pioneer tool holders
- khaki paint brushed on
- extended dash panel with 15 individual fuse holders neatly mounted in it.

Now I'm not saying that this stuff was put on in service - I don't know if it was ever used by the forces - but I know it was put on to the vehicle in the fifties or early sixties & has remained the same since then when it came to the area.
Photos will follow when I move enough stuff out of the way so I can get it out of the shed later today (Australia Day)
