    G'day Nostromo

Only to happy to help but,I like wrinklearthur am off to do other things,(like the washing up) but if you have any questions there are a few of us on here that have access to the info and or are old series people

Out of interest have they still got the 2 litre side/overhead motors, or have they been replaced by OHV 2.25 motors as was common.

    cheers

    G'day Nostromo

It looks like Wrinklearthur and I both have the same master parts book as our source and undoubtedably did as the book states on the first page "this publication supersedes the 2nd edition, publication No.TP155B which should be destroyed" so now you know why these books are so hard to find

    G'day Wrinklearthur.

Looks like we may have had similar careers within the great Rover/Leyland entity me, many years as parts interpreter.

    cheers

Aah! so they still have their original capacity motors, 2 litre side valve exhaust and overhead valve intake IOE, they should be "spread bore' for that model possibly with engine numbers in the 1706****** series for RHD vehicles 1955 and 56-57 models.

    cheers

From memory, the "Spreadbore" motor has the sparkplugs evenly spaced along the head, the "Siamese Bore", has them grouped as 2 towards the front and 2 towards the rear with a larger space between them in the middle, I have no longer got my early 80/86 book it grew legs a few years ago along with other reference books

Wrinklearthur may be able to confirm that.

    cheers

Yes UncleHo, both engines are side valve with exhaust valves in the block and the inlet valves in the head with the spark plugs evenly spaced along the head.
Car 177600739 has engine number 170605297.
The other car's engine number has degraded so I cannot read it.

re: the other engine number has degraded so i cannot read it

How can we find the unknown engine number when we have the car number?
...assuming both vehicle and engine are original since assembled...
