I found some links but they were not active.

Nice pictures of different locking hubs but the MAP hub isn't like yours :-

Seems that Mayflower Automotive Products were taken over by Fairey (or at least the hubs & winch were).

Yes I had the same search results, I know the guys at Pangolin 4x4 in Oregon USA. I chat with them on facebook I have asked them about these hubs as well. Dale Radford from the Series 1 club UK says the screw in the side is for oil but mine has a in< >out arrow and seems to engage the hubs when in. Interesting that the photos of Thor hubs look identical to my MAP but mine has a MAP logo. I found mention of a court case between MAP and THOR perhaps they pinched the design. I found that the picture on the MAP logo is the ship the Mayflower it looked like Bob Marley's head to me and I couldn't work it out LOL.
I am going to play around with them a bit today and see what I can find out.

Here's a better pic of the screw and funny enough it turns opposite to the instruction arrows .So to engage the hubs screw in to disengage screw out. The work ok I engaged them this morning and they work both forward and reverse there is a slight pause in the operation about half a wheel rotation while it re-engages from reverse to forward and back again . You can see this in the prop shaft movement. I think I may have a prototype hub here no one else seems to have anything similar they are either automatic with a oil hole or manual with a nut on the front. Maybe Annand & Thompson got a few prototypes to test or something. Fen boy on the Series 1 UK site gave me an advertising brochure from the time and a fitting instruction for the manual hubs but no mention of this type. I amn sure they have not been modified as the engraving for in < out > is factory even if it is around the wrong way.

Hi Mike,
There was some debate on the S2 club forum re this type of FWH.
I had a set fitted to my 52 and pulled a set of a 59 SII not long ago, the screw in the side is to lock them in as it has a pin that is pushed down as you screw it in.
Inside they have a set of roller bearings held in with a sprung metal band (like a rubber band), Been awhile since I pulled one fully apart.
They also have a nut with a seal surface that replaces the outer hub nut.
Thats about all I can remember for now as I dont have access to the hub at the moment, when I do I can post pics.

Pics would be great . If there are bearings and bands then things will wear and may need replacing before I do the Canning Stock Route trip.

I have MAP FWH's on my 88", but they are the same as the ones on the link which Gromit posted.

I have several of this type, they work well
their one failing is the slotted heads will move when locked and unlocked
from memory they sit in a plastic cup that wears
you turn the screw with a 20 coin or screw driver

I have a set of what I think are these, will have to check when I get home in a few days. If your interested, I will send them for the cost of post. In Oregon though, so might be a bit expensive?
