Over on REMLR a fellow is making repro canvas covers that you cant tell from originals his name is Allan cant remember his forum name
My Brother in Toowoomba is a trimmer. He has series owning customers but I don't know of he's done a canvas top for one.
He's done mountains of truck tarps though. If he's not too far from you I'll give him a hoy.
Cheers, Billy.
Keeping it simple is complicated.
Hi
I can give you a few tips
I researched the canvas , took me 10 years !!!!!!!!!!
I had a lucky break and got hold of a genuine factory 80" top .The Original canvas was a heavy 24 oz duck pure cotton , the only places making that stuff these days are in Pakistan or India or maybe China . Exmoor use a modern thinner canvas , it is lighter. Dealing and importing from Pakistan would be a nightmare .
I had a loan of a exmoor 3 seater top, many thanks to you from Traralgon way !!!!!!!!!!!! I made the patterns up from MDF board . Got a good sewing machine and with some practice , I made my own
The webbing and buckles are standard British 1" ..been around since the 1930's ..these are very easy to find . Your local disposal store will have surplus WW2 army brass buckles , exactly the same as series 1.
I used the Aussie canvas Billabong or Coolabah . A seller on EBAY sells seconds cheap , rolls of it .
