Tiny bit excited

1-2. can someone please confirm what these parts are? are they off the S1 axle shafts front or rear or something completely different, came with the S1 parts bits n pieces, so not sure.

update on my S1 - took it up the road other day and back, drives as well as can be expected for its age, was a bit nervous bit did a short 300m run up the road and back. my electric fan seems not to be up to the task, after some 10mins of running the engine began overheating - either the fan is poor quality (was new), radiator (new) so not that, not cowl which could explain loss of air directed into the radiator - so need to look at other options for cooling the engine

I do not think either of these are Landrover parts.

The short one could be part of a early S1 front prop shaft with a long nose diff. My 80" has a very short front prop shaft that I have not been able to find one the same length , but hard to tell from photo. The long shaft as John said don't think it is LR.

The shaft on the right looks like a truck brake operating cam.

Yes, I was trying to think what it looks like, and agree.

thanks to one and all for suggestions, will keep the smaller of the two.

1. fuel tank had a small leak from the top somewhere, and then dripping on the garage floor which stank of fuel so... drain the tank, my jerry can was at my parents house so had to find any suitable tubs

2. ended up getting the jerry can and emptying the fuel (had more than i thought) tank dropped for inspection

3. you can see the fuel trace, must admit I had no gasket under the float screw on the top which prob didn't help but the tank was only ever less then 1/2 full

4. more signs of the fuel leaking

5. and another view, I have in the recent past put a sealer and cleaner through the tank so thinking might have to re do this again. looked at new tanks almost non existent or way to expensive. thoughts people...

I would be inclined to block all the holes, pressurise it to 3-4psi, and look for where the pressure is leaking, by spraying soapy water on suspect spots and watch the bubbles.

This should give you a better idea as to the best way to deal with it.

thanks John for your suggestion. I have ordered a kit from ebay to re do the inner of the fuel tank (instead of just the sealer) it includes (as before) sealer, cleaner and rust inhibitor. Bought a slightly larger kit then first time round. Now the wait for ebay to deliver so whilst waiting for that had another look at the electric fan.

1. this was all the crap i used to secure the elec fan to the rad support panel, so it had to come out for another inspection seems too weak to me. even with a cowl seems to weak.

2. so its a cheap new 80w, so now on the hunt for a slightly larger for powerful elec fan. did have a closer look at fitting the normal holden fan but there is just no room and would prob rub on engine flexing to the radiator. I cant go too much bigger at 30cm, but could squeeze 35cm fan in there.

3. took grille off in the process, and straightened up the rad support panel was sitting a little slanted. sorted.

4. other side of the elec fan which i was using. need to look into ebay and see whats available.

Question - i am selling off a 86inch bonnet, a chap fixing up a 80inch said they are different, 80inch is shorter and has brackets to accommodate the windscreen when folded flat? True or not please? I recall another 86inch which i had, had brackets on the windscreen that secured to the bonnet locks on either side from memory?

If you are buying a new fan , if you are mounting it in front of the radiator you will need one that blows the air through the radiator & if behind you will need one that draws the air through . Not sure what you are trying to achieve with the bonnet , the 86" bonnet has different hinged on the windscreen frame & the vent panel on an 80" is part of the windscreen frame where the 86" is part of the bulkhead & so windscreen sits higher when folded down to clear the spare wheel if mounted on the bonnet, The 80 & 86 have different bulkheads also, I could be wrong but don't think they are interchangeable. Some one else may know.

Thanks Wayne, someone was wanting to buy a 86inch bonnet from me and I wasn't sure it would fit a 80", but seems clearly not.

1. whilst waiting for supplies to arrive, i thought to make up the two gaskets on top of the fuel tank so... got the tin snips out which cut the cork type material better then scissors, cut to shape

2. vice grips held the gasket in position whilst i drilled out the holes, worked well

3. end result one gasket completed and tested to fit well

4. then onto the smaller pick up gasket, fiddly work but worth it as i had no gaskets when fitted which could have led to the fuel leaks but unlikely as it was less then 1/4 full and sitting stationary in my garage when the leak occurred (or when first noticed)

5. ready to fit, another job done.

Waiting on two arrivals 1. fuel tank seal kit, and 2. a slightly larger more expensive brushless electric fan.
