I had 33x12.5s (10.5s on the front) on my 86 series 1 - an everyday driver for 7 years - only broke one axle at Yalwal - I had a series 2 steering box and a smaller sports steering wheel - didn't notice the heavy steering wheel all that much but then I was only in my mid 20s then.
Couldn't manage it now, though I can manage my 101 with 35x12.5s- just.

well I'm back at work again on the S1
Pic 1 - tyres need sorting out. first i needed to clean and paint the wheels all three done, but then realised one is the 231601 original rim and other two diff wheels
pic 2-3 rear wheels off, brakes appear ok but one side had a oil leak so will need to sort out brakes at a later time. been busy taking wheels to shop to have tyres stripped off the rim
pic 4 - another tyre and again a diff size, one was 750, one was 600 and the other 225. unpainted rim
pic 5 - painted rim.
my dilemma is finding the correct rims and re painting them again or do i just push ahead with the unmatched rims...
by the way this was just brushed on undercoat paint for now, undecided whether to paint the rims white or silver to match capping

1 - raced to get this 3rd tyre off the rim, so that i could paint, i had painted the sides prior to removal of the tyre but this is all an undercoat anyway
2 - brake drum after sanding and prepping for paint, did two drums so far
3 - brake drum painted black x2
4 - while i was at it, cleaned and painted the rear d/side brake area.
need to sort out the brakes, need a lot of new parts including brake lines either copper or steel.

You need to be aware that copper brake lines are illegal. There is an approved copper based tubing that is legal - it has its identity printed continuously along it.
