Thread: Door Mirror, where is this one from? Replacement?

Have a look at the brochure link I posted a couple of posts back - looks like the early 80s did not have any mirrors at all. Later 80s introduced "wing" mirrors that carried on through the models. None of the series 1 brochures show mirrors except on the wings - except a brochure for a pump where the vehicle does have an A pillar mirror.

I suspect the mirror on the RACQ vehicle and on other series 1s were something like dealer options or aftermarket.

The first of the 80" Land Rovers didnt have wing mounted mirrors as Rover found out they reflected the the firewall mounted park light at night.
I think when they moved the park light to the front of the wing is when they mounted the mirror on the wing tops.

Actually, to put this in perspective - outside mirrors were quite rare in the 1940s and 50s except on trucks, and not by any means universal on them - I think that the Series 1 Landrover I bought in 1962 was the first vehicle I had ever driven with an outside mirror!

I believe in the Q plate days , the plate was only required on the rear of the vehicle ..no front plate was fitted .. is that correct ?

The broken down car looks like a Morris 8 tourer .

That's correct Mike, in fact articles in the RACQ's own publications reveal that it was actively lobbying against having plates on the front.
