It will not start , what's up with the bloody thing

I have come to a stop with this thing.

    2 1/4 diesel not starting.

I have replaced solinode, starter motor, battery, cleaned injectors, put fuel in it, and still nothing.

    Any ideas.

Maybe try a small squirt of Aerostart, that might prove if mechanically all is OK and point the finger at fuel. The fuel system can be a pain in the arse to bleed sometimes You could also check the obvious and make sure the pump fuel cut off is in the run position, sometimes the linkages wear badly stopping full travel

    Cheers Simon

Stop telling Angus he's not wanted.

Wasn't he running the day Dave came over on the 11th December?

Does it need the glow plugs first? We had a Inter tractor that always needed pre heating even in summer.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

Dave got it going, before Xmas, we have started it every week since then, with no issues, until last week, when it would not play. Have used Aerostart, but still no luck, Dave said it should start even if the Plugs are not working ( looks as if i need a special tool to remover them )????????

I bet your neighbor has put sugar in the fuel tank, payback for filling his lounge up with diesel smoke

He looked a bit grumpy when we started it on my visit

I have a SIII 2.25D that had a similar problem. I always glow it before trying to start from cold, just assumed it was necessary.
In my case, it stopped running 800m from home & would not start again.
Found it had a stuffed no. 3 glow plug for the second time. Replaced, still no start. NO SPECIAL TOOLS REQUIRED TO REMOVE GLOW PLUGS, although you may need 5-holes or a mole grip to get the knurled retaining nut moving. My car certainly wouldn't start with only 3 plugs working, as I discovered when the first plug went.
    Still no joy.
Pulled each injector hose & proved fuel to each injector. Still no start!
Pulled feed to distributor pump & checked fuel flow to it. Appeared all good.

    Gave up!!

3 weeks later, had a few minutes to tinker. Key in, 20sec's glow, bit of hand throttle (the pump timing is out, & it's a 'special tool' type one so I haven't done it) and VROOM!!!

I still have no idea what the problem was. Probably next time it'll refuse again!

Please excuse the 'shouting' above, I cannot figure out how to do italics on an iPhone keyboard.

if its not kicking on areo then its low cranking speed.

you need a deep reach socket to get the glow plugs out...

Might be able to free up wednesday to come have a look.
