This is how I hold small screws & bolts (2BA size), I have a 200mm length of 20x3 aluminium, in it there are multiple holes a 50/50 mix of 2BA tapped holes and 2BA clearance holes, I then put them in my grit blasting cabinet, makes cleaning them a breeze, cheers Dennis

    Update

    Hi All,

    Some more work done today.

I had all 4 drums machined:

    Before/After pictures of the Indicator:

Both of my door tops are beyond repair, so I took the doors apart so that I can transfer the window glass onto a set of replacement door tops.

Before/After pictures of the Window Locks:

Here are some before pictures of the very dirty glass:

After a few hours of cleaning all of the glass (front doors and tail-gate), here are some after pictures (the glass isn't perfect, but it's a lot better than it was!):

Dinty - that's a great idea for cleaning nuts/bolts/washers/screws, etc!

    That's all for now.

    Regards,
    The Grey Ghost

    More Sanding & Cleaning

    Hi All,

A few more jobs done today.

Before and after cleaning pictures - the nuts/bolts/washers for the tow bar tongue:

Before and after cleaning pictures of the door striker plates:

Before and after cleaning pictures of the windscreen hinges:

I am hoping to do some painting today - weather permitting!

    Regards,
    The Grey Ghost

    prep

Though preparation of the surface is the only way to get a good paint finish.

Have you any pictures of your method in removing old paint and rust?

    Update / Painting

    Hi Wrinklearthur,

I agree with you - thorough preparation is critical. On page 2 of this thread I have spoken about my very novice approach but in summary:

    * Depending on how complex the part is - soak in a molasses solution for 2+ weeks. Wash off the molasses with hot water, and then...
    * Use a bench grinder with a wire wheel to get the bad rust off
    * Use an electric drill with a red plastic wheel
    * Fine sand paper (800-1200 grit)
    * Clean the surface with a de-greaser.
    * Clean the surface with a clean cotton cloth
    * Paint in a dry, clean area
    * Leave 24 hours between coats.
I know that my method is not perfect, but I am very happy with the results.

Here is today's work (in part inspired by another thread)...

Before/After pictures of the Land Rover Badge

Before/After pictures of the Pedal Box Nuts/Washers/Springs

Before/After pictures of various Shackle Pin Washers

    The other Vent mechanism painted:

    That's it for today.

    Regards,
    The Grey Ghost

    Pig Tails, Painting and Patience

    Hi All,

    More work done today...

Here are the before and after photos of the "pig tails" from my tail-gate.
Question: Is it normal for one to be longer than the other?

Before and after photos of the center steering wheel cover:

    Pedal Boxes Painted:

    Second Vent Painted:

    4 Vent Arms Painted:

Floor Screws - before and after:

Naturally after I spent a few hours cleaning the existing floor screws (and interesting mix and match there) - I found some left over parts from the last project:

Washers for the Shackles - Painted:

    That's it for today.

    Regards,
    The Grey Ghost

No. It has been overloaded. You might want to think about replacing it - you can straighten it, but probably easy to find them same one used 2/2a,3.

    Update

    Hi All,

My last day on holidays - so got a few more things done today.

Pig Tails painted (although I will need to find a replacement one, thanks for the answer John):

I removed the rear grab handles, cleaned them up, and painted them:

I tried to tidy up the nuts/bolts for the rear grab handles, but the threads were shot. I did tidy-up the home-made spacers though:

    Indicator and bracket - painted:

    Striker Plates - painted:

    Windscreen hinges - painted:

End Seat Panels - Sanded, Cleaned & Painted:

Tail Gate tread strips, removed, sanded, cleaned, painted:

Land Rover Badges - Painted (not my best effort):

    Both door tops painted:

    Mud Splash Panel painted:

That's probably it for a while.

    Regards,
    The Grey Ghost
