    2a - Doesn't start

    Hello,

Unfortunately I have neglected my 67' 2a 6cyl for a while now, and I went to start it up yesterday with no luck.

I turn the key and all I can hear is the loud click

The battery spent the day charging, I put it back in the car and the same occurs.

I recently put in a brand new starter motor, so I am confident it is not that.

Does anyone have any suggestions for trouble shooting?

    Thanks

Sounds like the starter motor, the starter motor solenoid or a bad earth somewhere but if it's been neglected could the motor have seized ?

The loud click is either the solenoid or maybe the starter trying to engage.
Turn the motor over (with the starting handle or a spanner on the nut on the crankshaft pulley) with the ignition off. Hopefully the motor turns freely
    Then try again.
Just because it's new doesn't mean the starter will work OK.

What were the symptoms that made you change the starter ?

Remove both battery terminals, clean refasten, tighten, and try again. If it still does not work, look at the other battery lead connections - on the earth and the starter solenoid. If the battery is earthed to the chassis, locate and check both ends of the chassis-engine earth and check these.

If all these are OK, the starter may be locked in engagement on the ring gear. Some starteers have a square on the end of the shaft, possibly with a cover, that allows you to put a spanner on and wind it out of engagement. Failing that turning the engine a few turns with the crank should disengage it.

If none of that works, it probably needs trouble shooting with a meter or test light, but I'm betting on the battery terminals.

I had this only recently with the 109. I replaced the Solenoid and cleaned up the starter motor and cleaned all connections and made sure everything was nice and tight. Its never sounded and worked so well since I've had it.
    cheers,

Which 6 cylnder engine is it? The Rover 2.6 has a remote solenoid which may be the issue if yo uknow the starter is ok. Wouldn't hurt to check the earths either.
