Colin followed your instructions to the letter everything seems to make sense but still have permanant light on once motor is warm

Choke outAttachment 136000 Attachment 136001
lever arm choke inAttachment 136002 lever arm choke outAttachment 136003 so far everything works correctly
noticed some damage to insulation spacer Attachment 136004
so decided to test again with test lamp
choke inAttachment 136005 choke outAttachment 136006
would seem damage to insulation isnt effecting anything
any advice kinda doesnt make sense........................is there a way of testing thermostat sender
Cheers Paul
When engine is cold the temp switch should be open circuit. When warmed up should be closed circuit.
Would that be testing from male spade terminal on thermostat to earth".......I'm not the brightest with electrical systems[bighmmm] but slowly I'm learning[smilebigeye]
Thinking more about this I think I should be testing from terminal to wire that attaches to it
will have a go tomorrow
Cheers Paul
Power on the test light clamp, then point to spade terminal. Light should be out on cold engine. Light should turn on with motor warmed up. If the light is on on a cold engine the thermo switch is faulty...
Or with multi meter set to ohms check for resistance between spade terminal and earth. Open circuit for cold engine closed for warmed up engine. If its closed circuit on a cold engine the thermo switch is faulty.
Clear as mud...lol

Thanks Rod,,
Yep,,, clear as mud [bigwhistle]
A bit expensive for a sensor, here's a cheaper one 545010 - Water Temperature Switch but of course out of stock !
This side of the ditch https://www.allfourx4.com.au/545010
Could it be corrosion stopping an earth path from the sensor to the head ? A long shot but removing, cleaning & replacing with some conductive grease might get it working.....but if it's not important probably best to leave it alone.

PS. Just found a modern replacement Fan Switch Kit - Otter Switch Replacement - Fosseway PerformanceFosseway Performance
Yep as gromit says check the earths are clean before replacing it. They are a bugger to remove...
Possibly add a separate earth wire under one of the screws, or even just take a screw out and clean the threads.
