Have got specific details somewhere & will try to find them.

I'm sure someone else here is aware of it & can advise sooner, meantime I will keep looking.

That drawing in the instructions doesn't seem to match my carb? Or am I just silly?

It would if it is a 361V but IMHO it looks like something else or a very late version. Maybe it's just too clean?

It is a cheap knockoff so there could be differences.....
Looking down the top as it idles I can't see anything getting past the big oring. But there is a big drop of fuel from that spout in the middle every second or so. Is that normal for idle or am I looking at an issue?

Edit - Ok mystery drop has stopped. Car still idles with the mixture screw fully screwed in though.

Edit2 - so I got a new oring from a local shop. After fitting the car wouldn't idle at all and would blow a ton of black smoke when pressing the accelerator. Fitted the original and it kept doing the same. The gasket looks slightly damaged where one of the screws goes. Going to give up for the day. Might be easier to drill a hole in the side of it and screw in an injector...Bought a series2... I think.

Edit3 - the car not running at all was caused by the spark plugs being fouled. Fitted new ones(will clean up the old ones at a later date) and back to the original problem again. The orings I got locally don't do the job properly so might have to order a correct one and some gaskets online.

Have you actually ascertained that yours is a Zenith? LR also used Solex on Series vehicles. I'm not sure of the physical differences though.

If in doubt, have it identified by a Carby workshop.

It certainly looks like a zenith. I've looked at photos of the other types and they all look pretty different.
I pulled this one right down and it's a pretty poor copy of one. Lots of damaged around smooth edges from manufacturing.
I'll most likely replace it with what's hopefully a better quality product.

Edit - fit a new carb. Runs like magic now.

    Finished! I think.
Time to see if it passes a road worthy. Hoping to have it all done by Xmas. But I got no idea how long the process takes.

When I telephoned Regency Park Test Centre & inquired about mine, all the bloke wanted to know was "Has the engine been altered?"

"Nope, original donk" says me & gave him the numbers he requested etc.

"That's fine, no need to bring it in." said my newest best friend. I was worrying about nothing after all it seemed, but I had tried to do all that was necessary to a correct standard .

FWIW, my Indicators & Park/Side lights are vertical but with the Indicator on top front & rear so it's as JD said.

I think the 88s look the business without hood bows & hood.

That would be amazing! My uncle was a mechanic a decade ago so knows a few people still in the industry. Hopefully that will help. Not that I think there is anything wrong but I just don't want someone who is going to get picky about random little things.

You may need to come armed with the answers for some of the possible queries.

A few of these I can think of:-

    1. The pedals are not missing the rubbers - it was built like that!

    2. Seat belts were not required for that date - if fitted they must be compliant and in good condition.

    3. Reversing lights were not required for that date.

    4. Windscreen washers - not required for that date - but this is something you may be required to fit.

    5. hazard lights - not required at that date.

    6. Towbars for that date are not required to be placarded, but unless it is the factory one, be prepared for an argument!

If you are told you need any of these, you need to ask for the details of the legislation or regulations making the requirement retrospective.

One possible problem I see - not clear from the pictures whether the tail lights are correct - they need to incorporate a reflector. If not, separate reflectors are needed. (90/110/Defender tail lights do not, and a separate reflector is fitted)
