I was looking on the front right hanger hence why I couldn't find it. Found numbers where Paul has pointed out. Can't really read them. Will need to clean it up a bit.
Also got the car to try turn over. Just need a new battery to see what it can do.
Chassis number will be where Paul indicates if it is Australian built (most of them), although you may need to wire brush back to bare metal to see it. UK built ones are usually on the outside of the RH front chassis rail in front of the wheel. If built somewhere else, it could be anywhere.
The number should also be on the transfer lever instruction plate on the cabin side of the firewall, but since this is attached by four screws, it may be missing, or off another vehicle, and because of this, carries no legal weight.

Ok, I think it says
143000804
EDIT-
So after a lookup I come up with
1
43 = series 2
0 = 1960
00804 = serial
Sound about right?
Early Series 2

Also noticed this when poking around. This is the top of the rear shock. Is this normal or has it been modified to handle a different shock?
Same year as mine looks better nick than what I started with my serial 143001010
1960 series 2 143001010
1976 series 3 91331709c
06 discovery v6
2014 discovery tdv6
2010 cub supamatic drover
Certainly Series 2, but hardly early - Series 2 was replaced by the 2a the following year, but 1960 was the third year of Series 2 production.
Early if you look at 2/2a as a single series, which is really the most logical way - the only change with Series 2 to 2a was the introduction of the 2.25 diesel to replace the 2.0 diesel, and the adding of a letter to the end of the chassis number. There were far more changes during Series 2 production, let alone during 2a production!

Did these cars have fuses? I cant seem to find one if they did.
Car will definitely have to be rewired, everything is a mess. Looking at getting a complete harness from Autosparks.
Also I have found tons of 2a and 3 wiring diagrams online but cant seem to find one for a 2. Is it the same as a 2a?
EDIT - found one! http://www.lrfaq.org/Series/images/SII+VE.jpg
Do any of the electrics work?
Before you go spending a lot of money see if you can get to grips with what you have.
It often looks a lot worse than it actually is until you get used to it. Suspect all earth connections and anything that looks like house mains wire!
cheers,
D
