Abit of an update wiring complete and engine bay basically done

Got the engine running but I've got a porous core plug in the head, how do I remove it, does the head need to come off ?, couldn't I find anything in the manual about them, parts manual shows them threaded perhaps

Sorry I can't help you with that one but I can tell you #7 is a threaded brass plug & for your future reference it's position lines up with build Plate/Chassis No. ie. to replace it for whatever reason remove plate, Cut a radiussed corner hole in the bulkhead directly in front of plug, in bulkhead, Socket spanner & extension onto head of plug, & remove or tighten it, replace build plate.Quote:

NB. Radiussed corners are supposed to stop the bulkhead cracking from hole outwards. ????
Btw. It might pay to drill a couple of 1" holes near the seat bulkhead for drainage for when you hose it out & may find the tub is sloping down to the front or you park it on a hill so it isn't. If there is a mat over those it will be ok for dust.
I don't think those core plugs are threaded - if they were, they would have a screwdriver slot. There is no reason they cannot be replaced in situ, but block the pushrod holes so you don't get debris in the oil system. I must admit I have never had any problems with them though.
Apparently in the factory they are screwed in from a long threaded stick and cut off flush with the head,which is what I’m seeing

From memory I replaced one of these on my 1960 restoration. It's at the rear of the block and what confused me was - different people call it different things. It's not a core plug as seen one the side of the block, it's a heater plug..
It does have a thread on it, but (at least on my 2.25) the thread didn't go all the way into the block. I cleaned the thread as best as I could, screwed it in, and used a sealant although I can't remember which one!

Maybe those 4 equidistant small holes on your originals take a special tool with 4 prongs?
Not that easy four holes are centre punching I guess to lock the plugs.
Pommie forum suggests drilling a row of holes in the plug making a slot then insert a chisel-or similar and screw plug out.
I suspect they will be so corroded they may crumble out.....not going to touch them until I get the replacements to get an idea of thickness of the plug and what I’m really up against
My biggest worry is the threads in the head aren’t too corroded to screw the new plugs in

I think from memory they are a conduit thread , but don't quote me on that.[bighmmm]
Can't help with thread size but I'm pretty sure I used the smaller of the two Die cast bungs found in 44 galls. Not 100% positive but worth a try. The outer view is what it looks like, & has the special Drum Spanner pattern.
NB.. BTW I am referring to the Heater Plug as mentioned above. Those on top I have no idea.
I suppose they may even be metric now or they may have been left as standard.[bighmmm]
