Thread: engine in....

got it started last night... first time in 12 months woo hoo.

it was a pain to connected the fuel line into the bowl... had an 11/16 lock nut setup that required a very skinny 11/16 spanner so a quick grind of an elcheap bunnings spanner saw that fixed.

starter switch is RS and needed to be shorted to get going.. but it runs ok.

now to make up an accellerator setup for the new carbie, rewire for alternator and tidy up the in dash wiring.

Counds like it is going well. A mate started a truck and drove it the other day. it was the first time it had moved under it's own power for 40 years!!

New bench i made from a single bed frame and some chipboard from my parents kitchen handy having a second bench as the first one is always cluttered with tools and junk!

Bolts used to pull the motor onto the gearbox



Video camera is on charge to get footage of firing it up.... about a week before i can see if it can move under its own steam.

Jobs for this week are:
Finish last brake pipe
replace clutch slave cyl and fit flex hose
fit flex hose from rear axle to brake line.
re-fit all interior / seats / floor
rewire ignition
rewire alternator (as it currently wired for generator)
make up some why of getting the throttle connected

Thanks for the pictures. And should we start running a book on how long it takes to get the new bench just as cluttered as the other? It seems you have already made a good start!

Ease up, thats just he power tools used to build it on top and my box of air tools i was using at the time that get stored on the bottom shelf

it is messy now though, with a 1/2 made brake line, flare tool kit all over the place and some other various hand tools. i do try to finish each session in the garage by putting all tools away though... I know my old man wished i did that when i was younger, we were forever in trouble for leaving tools laying around!!!

You've got a six cylinder fan on your four cylinder! I thought they'd fit, just never tried it. It looks a bit bent. Check the blades aren't cracked (a bit of a habit I've heard) and the rivets aren't loose. I've also heard the 6 cyl fan is too big for the 4 cyl shroud. Nice project, though.

thanks for the tip, i'll be refitting the radiator and shroud this week, i'll take a look. Worst case i can switch it for the original motors fan.

You should see my shed! Mine makes yours look like a "clean room" for electronics. I have the same problem with putting things away, plus I keep getting stuff with nowhere really to put it.
