Operation Ralph!

After I fitted the new alternator, Ralph ran fine for a while then started to run at a discharge again. Ran through the wiring and realised that there is no light wired into the circuit to excite the regulator pack to initiate charging. Dont know how it has worked for the last 3 years though. So I used the unused light on the bottom left of the instrument panel, i think it is the indicator light, but I have the old stalk with the light on the end type, so it wasn't used. Runs sweet now. I still have a slight weep on the injector pump that needs fixing and the I can refit the front drive shaft when time permits. Question,,, is it much work to remove the front free wheeling hubs and fit drive shafts. The amount I drive Ralph (1800 miles in 3 years) I am thinking of removing the one remaining hub that works and taking it back to the way it was from factory.

No drama at all to remove the freewheel hubs and replace with standard drive members. Apart from 2 new drive hubs and felt seals it is straight forward, just like the rear 1s.

The only issue could be that the free wheel hubs may have longer than standard bolts, so that you may need to replace the bolts. These are BSF, and may be hard to locate.

Hey All

Can anyone tell me if the flywheel for a 2.25ltr is different between the diesel and petrol motors. I know they are the same block. I recently bought a 8:1 compression 2.25ltr petrol motor I want to rebuild as time and spare $$$ permit, but there was no flywheel with it and now I am on the scrounge for one.

No, they are not the same, the diesel one is a lot heavier. I believe they are, in fact, intercahngeable, although fitting a diesel one to a petrol motor would make it a bit sluggish, albeit smooth. Going the other way, would be more problematic - the diesel would be very rough, probably hard to start, and may not idle.

Just found one down south, it's a petrol one so it will do the job.

Got flanges, felts etc on the way. Just have to find a weekend between now and 4/11 to get it done for GCLRO's Series Skinfull Trip.
