    Red transfer gear lever moving

The red transfer lever on my series 3 109 occasionally seems to slip a little bit into the neutral position. Is this due to an adjustment needed or something like a spring that might be getting worn? My manual doesn't have a troubleshooting section for the transfer case so not sure where to start. Seem to notice it more when the car is parked and you engage a gear on the normal box, let the clutch out and nothing happens, I give the transfer lever a little push forwards and it clicks in and seems fine. I'm worried it could jump out while driving.

There is a detent plunger and spring on the top of transfer box, held in place by a hex head cap, which may have a weak spring causing the problem.

Alternatively; some people on this forum have reported that the low-range lever cannot go all the way forward, because the lever is fouling the floor board, so it is worth checking under the car to see if this might be the case,

Another possibility is that the pivot bolt in the transfer gear lever is in the wrong way and is fouling on the bellhousing. The head of the bolt should be on the side closest to the bellhousing.

Got under the car today and had a look and when the lever is in the normal high range position used for everyday driving, the shaft is indeed touching the floor underneath the boot so not easily seen from the inside but obvious from under the car. I have a holden conversion so not sure if this means something is slightly out of whack when it comes to the position of the engine and gearbox, but I also believe the previous owner had the box replaced at some point so it is anyones guess why the lever hits the floor. It takes very little effort to move it from where it sits to the neutral position, but more effort to move it back, feels like it is half disengaged and just needs a touch to go to neutral.

From the look of it I have about 5-10mm more floor in front of the lever - is the first thing to try just filing this out to give the lever some more room? It looks like everything else is bolted on in the right spot, maybe if the box came off another car the lever might be slightly different.

It is probably worth doing but before changing the floor forever, what about removing it and see if that fixes the problem?
