    Just too noisy

Having just replaced the extractors on my 2.25 petrol with original exhaust manifold, Iam at a loss as to what is wrong.

    Listed are things done
    • cleaned all debris from old gasket
    • used gasket glue on new genuine gasket
    • New block studs and inlet manifold bolts
    • new gasket between inlet and exhaust manifold
    • all bolts and nuts done to suitable tightness
    • new exhaust installed, all the way through (original) bolted not welded
When starting engine, engine races, till I pump the accelerator, Like auto Choke.Seems to very noisey and sucking a lot of air, from who knows where.will not idle, have to keep revving to maintain motor running

Sounds like a ride on mower without exhaust, according to wifey

Any suggestions or steps I have missed

With the engine running move your hand around near as much of the exhaust system as you can and check for leaks - you should feel them. I can run my barina with no manifold fitted and even it is relatively quiet so maybe there is another issue that has decided to show itself after the repairs you have done.

I would be checking the seal of the intake manifold to the block. Sounds like it is sucking too much air, hence the over revving maybe because it is running lean.
Put you hand over most of the carbie intake (or use full choke) and listen for air sucking in around the gasket.
I have sprayed a starting fluid around the gasket before, it will make the engine rev more if it is sucking air from that spot. Warning, highly flammable and likely to ignite if it gets on the exhaust.

The manifold could also be warped

with the engine cold remove the fan belt then start it up, mist it with areostart if the revs dont change and you see the areostart blowing away from the engine turn it off, heavily talc the engine with baby powdwer and start it up.

once the cloud settles turn it off, where the dust isnt is where the leak is.

    Have You checked this

Just a thought, does it have a brake booster in the brake system?
If so, your problem could be that the vacuum lines to the brake booster, emission control stuff and/or distributor are not connected properly, hence the sucking air sounds.
The symptom of the vehicle stopping is a hint that that is the problem, excess air leans the fuel/air mixture too much and the motor stops, particularly at idle.
