Well did some more today gave the shackles a second coat , Cleaned the rear hubs up & painted them. cleaned all the barrings off the rear hubs.
Checked & cleaned the axles cleaned & painted the drive flanges on rear..Did up all the backing plates..& just fiddled around with parts & just cleaning more parts & bolts read for the front to go back on...
Anyway heres some pics of what i got done today.

    New seals

Barrings all repacked & hubs & axles back on..

    All the shackles fitted..

Took a couple of pics side on as best i could & the front still looks lower than the front so thats good & if i'm lucky when all done it will sit LEVEL..

Well i should have the drums & wheels on the rear tomorrow although i mite leave the drums off cause i still have the brakes to do..
    So thats todays efforts..

Well didnt get to much done today....

I did get the rear diff bolted up nice & tight & put the wheels on so now its sitting on its own now in the rear no stands or saw horse..

I also changed the diff breather to one i had pulled apart cleaned & polished earlier (told use i was bored).

Desided to measure the drums today to see if they had enough meat to get them machined..WELL
    FRONT ONES

    REAR ONES

So if anyone has any good drums around I would love to hear from you as i now need all the drums replaced ..Sposed to be 11 inches MAX & 11.6 Max..

Also started to strip the gearbox & transfercase today..Was going great till i went to separate the bellhousing from the main box..I forgot to undo the bolt on the bottom layshaft so it didnt go as pland had to get back together & select 4th gear ..WHAT an idiot i totaly forgot about that bolt..Ahwell all is good now..

Does anyone know with disco rims when they get them flipped do they just flip the center & reweld it back in the same place or does it go in a certain place & what about the valve hole what happens to that since it would be on the wrong side once the flip was done ..I want to get some flipped just cant find any info on how there done well i know how there done but where does the center sit same spot or more forward or more back..

YAY another day in the shed started to clean the bellhousing & i PAINTED some gearbox bits & also pulled the guts outa the main box..Karen is picking up the swivel rebuild kits on tuesday on her way home from work so should have front wheels on by the end of the week...Still dont know about the shocks as ive been told to just use standard civi ones ??????

    And here are some pics..

Karen picked these up for me today , she was'nt sure which one would of been best so she got both..

When i pulled all the guts outa the box i was surprised as there wasnt ant metal filings in the bottom & all the gears are in good nick same as the barrings & reverse even has all its teeth not like the green one..But we dont drive for to long in reverse so didnt worry about replacing..

    So that was a bonus..

Ok i finished the main box this mornin & then moved on to the swivels ..I was a bit worried about these as i had never before done any..
Anyway heres some pics of what i got done..

Ok now i have a couple of concernes wen i did the swivels i did them on the bench & set the preload buy the book & all is good but when i put them on the car i thought i would just check well they where way over at around 10 to 12 kgs but i worked it out as it being the large oil seal on the back of the housing the one thats on the swivel ball..IS this common & will it settle down once the car is driven a bit & the seal beds in as such ????

Also noticed when i was finished i turned the diff & noticed both axles turning the same way & at the same time.So i grabed the drivers side axle & i couldnt stop it from turning..Like on the rear if u turn the diff & grab the wheel or axle it stops & the other side turns..Not on the front they both go at same time..Then i remembered when i was pulling the car apart we tryed to move the car by pushing it & it wouldnt budge thought it was in gear but NO it wasnt & i thought it mite be the shoes stuck on the drums & they where hard as to get off so put it down to that..I will put the hubs & wheels back on it tomorrow & put it on the ground & see if it makes any differance & i'll try to turn one wheel on its own before i drop it on the ground but i recon that both wheels will turn same way & same time & when its on the ground I recon i wont be able to push it..

ANYONE GOT ANY IDEAS OR ADVISE I recon if i have to pull it apart again i'd shoot meself or sell it as is cause i realy dont want to have to do it again & the cost of it so far is killing us & i dont want to have to spend more just on the front end..
So i'm listening if you have any ideas or advise or sargestions..

When i have the diff center out & cleaned it nothing looked wrong or outa place all looked good..

Banjo, I reckon you should do this stuff commercially. I'd be happy for somebody over here that puts that amount of quality into a rebuild.

The diff sounds suspect, I think the spider gears are stuck?
